Tomorrow night there will be a total eclipse of the moon - nice and visible from the UK. Starts about 9.45 and finishes about 3 hours later.

I am currently held captive by a primitive tribe in the south pacific who were going to sacrifice me to their moon god in a ceremony starting around 9:45.

I should be able to spin this advance knowledge to my advantage

Anyone got tips on how to get photos of this?

I was going to be out for a meal tonight, but going round to my parents instead. So i should have the opertunity to get out into the garden for a while. Lovely and clear up here

Ideally you'll need a telescope and afocal or prime focus methods, but a 12x zoom *might* just get an acceptable image.

It's going to be dim, so a slow exposure, but not slow enough to cause tracking errors Perhaps f4 at 1/30th ISO200 ?? Suck it and see...

My harrisphotography site has a few astro shots, some with EXIF data, so you can guess from them maybe. Happy Hunting anyway

I'll be using my 350D with my 70-300 1:4-5.6 IS USM lens and a tripod so i'm thinking i *should* get at least something interesting.

I'll be shooting in RAW obviously

Thanks for remembering me , I had forgotten all about it. Just had a look outside -nice clear night at moment ( time is 18.00. Should be a good night for it . Going to run off and see if I can find the tripod.

The next total lunar eclipse will take place on 3 March 2007 and will be at least partly visible over the eastern Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and western Australia.
