ooooooooooooooo unlucky!
Feel for you
Unlucky Nick - where did you get caught ? proper copper or scamera van ?
Spookily that\'s my birthday date as well.
No he wasn\'t rushing up to give me a present before you all ask :P
Unlucky mate :(
Three months ago ... do I have to sit in fear for three months every time I think I've been zapped? :O_o1:
Nah, I found out before Chrimbo but they offered to let me go on a speed awareness course to avoid the points.
Thing is, the ONLY place I could do it was in the area I was nicked, so that would mean a day off work and a two hour drive to Swindon...
I tried to get on a course up here but it's not possible.
So that held up the process whilst we faffed over that.
I was nabbed doing 36 in a thirty limit so it was a thoroughyl fair cop.
In my defence it was on a dual carriageway which, about 1/4 of a mile further back, was a 50 limit but like I say, fair cop and all that.
I thought there was a turn around of 3 weeks - if you had not heard anything 3 weeks after the date of the recorded offense.
I once got caught doing 90 on the M6 by a camera. Thing is, I didn't know this until I got back from a three month stint of travelling by which time several warning letters and eventually a court summons were also waiting for me.
I phoned them to explain I had no idea I had been fined. Turned out the prosecuting officer was off sick, and they'd cancelled all of their upcoming low-importance court cases. So the whole thing was dropped, didn't even get the original £60 + 3 points.
I seem to remember paying about £80 for the DVLA to scrawl on it for me.
And then I got done again, 35 in a 30 and had to retake my test, oh what it is to be young and craaayzee!
Heh, I'm hoping I don't get any points as its still 6 & a ban for me :(
I don't drive any more, but was a a bit of a speed twit when I did. I first got done on the A5 at Brownhills. 46 in a 40mph zone, BUT it was 50 on the other side of the dual carriageway. I was doing the return trip and was convinced it was still 50 !
grrr
I'm amazed that I have no points, some of the stuff I used to get up to on motorbikes. Unlucky Nick.
Unlucky mate!
Got a TS10 :stop: myself a few years ago, kinda hard to explain but I apparently went through a red light on a crossroads, where the across lanes were fenced off, leaving a normal carriageway in effect (if that makes sense)
The local magistrate was a bit of an anti-traffic offence type and apparently wouldn't have any of it.
So I duly bent over and took 3 for the team
I got flashed by a speed camera about three weeks ago on the bike on my way to work, it must be a bit trigger happy as I was only indicating about 36mph on the speedo (so 32-33 in reality). After two weeks there was no summons so I've got away with it I think.
I should really take it easy as for me no licence = no job, but there are apparently only 600 traffic cops left in the whole of London. The only time I've seen one was last year when the lights changed just as I was reaching the front of a quewe I'd filtered past- so I went round the wrong side of a traffic island, then saw the police cruiser waiting at the front of the quewe coming from my right:o. Sure enough they rapidly did a u-turn and came after me, but at the next set of lights I apologised and they gave me a condescending talking to, before telling me not to do it again and driving off. Phew! I don't do that any more, but I haven't slowed down much.
Yeah, if after two weeks you don't hear anything you should be fine. Apparently they have to send the notification out within two weeks of it occurring. If anyone gets one of these letters asking you sign the form stating you were driving at the time (so that points & a fine can be issued), don't do it initially. If you were caught by one of the speed vans then try this before filling out and replying to any forms they send you...
If there are other people in the household who are insured to drive the car then write a formal letter two them asking them to provide photographic evidence of the driver at the time of the offense. State that you can't recall who was driving at the time and it would be unfair to put the points on the car owners license if they were not driving when their car was caught speeding.
They will then rummage through their files and send the photos to you. If the picture of the person driving is clear then your screwed basically, but if its distorted you can say that you don't know who was driving so technically they can't issue the points. Ultimately if the photo is unclear in the first place they might not even bother sending them out, and it will be over with. Its worth trying this rather than just accepting the what the form wants you to confirm straight away.
Had they sent me the NIP, I would have replied with a PACE:

Gotta be worth a go:).
Unlucky. Nearly a year to the date (27th Nov 05) that my missus was done. One of those bloody "safety" vans on a bridge on the M6.
It wasn't long after she'd had a day at Knockhill driving single seaters so she was still on a bit of a speed high. Clocked the cameras, anchors on, still got done, 3 points. Almost a court shot, but not quite, 3mph off ! This has caused a years snail speed driving as she had 3 points already
