    Got a PC....Need a 360??????

    Arrrgggghhhhhhhh

I keep putting it off, I bought wii for fun, and it's great when friends come round, but crap alone. I play almost soley WoW, but really fancy a hardcore console for when WoW gets too much
or the odd spare moment (work is 50 hour week )

Also would like new console to become new decent DVD player (easier to justify to partner)

Has a PS3 preordered but look a bit of a let down, esp with new non emotion findings and
thinking of cancelling and 360 may be answer.

Can any current PC/360 players give me their opinions. I run a 24 dell at native res and I am happy with WoW's slightly dated visuals.
Will a 360 with a high def panel be close to this ??????? Shathlis, i know you are a keen wower with an eye for detail, or any others in this situation....................if you are listening what do you reckon????????

I have never played WoW, but I assume it looks worse than Oblivion and the 360 version of Oblivion looks pretty schwing. Also, the graphics card on the 360 is based on the upcoming ati r600 line (unless I am very much mistaken). Have a gander at some Gears of War trailers to see the power of the xbox
Well, I can cut it in half!

If you're into typical console titles then I'd highly suggest getting yourself a 360.

On the other hand, if you're happy with the PC and tend to play more PC-based games/genres I'd say you should hold off the consoles until something really tickles your fancy.

I was a hardcore PC gamer, started to get heavily into online play with Diablo II and then moved onto FPS games with MOHAA, Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2 and Counter Strike Source. I even started up a whole online gaming clan (www.divasgaming.com), won loads of tournaments and have over 50 paying members.

Dec 05 it all changed cause I decided to give the Xbox 360 a go. I had previously had an Xbox and a PS2 but didn't like either as I didn't think the online play compared to the PC.

I find the 360 to be superb, it's by far the best console I've ever owned (it's edged the SNES out of that spot) and it has in my opinion the best online gaming experience available anywhere. Take your messenger, your xfire, your teamspeak, your all seeing eye and all your favourite games, put them in nice white box and viola, Xbox Live. Add to that the fact that you're removing all the hax0rs and the whole online experience becomes far more enjoyable.

As for graphics, I run my 360 on a 50" Plasma and Gears of War is undoubtedly the best thing I've ever seen. I still love my PC but the only games I play on it now are Sollitaire and occasionally Mahjong.

All 5-6 games I bought were in the top 10 xbox sales last year from memory, Viva Pinata, CoD3, PES6, GoW etc.

I got the premium pack, another controller, the cool battery charger, another battery, VGA+optical cable, stupidly expensive wi-fi adaptor (from MS, that fits snug on the back of the system) and more.

I've hardly used it, if I do play on a console, I play on my Wii. I hate consoles for shooters, having played them on PC for years I just can't get used to it. Its console gamers that ruined Call of Duty with the namby pamby health regen

Its great for PES, racers - just hate the controls for shooters!

Let me know if you're interested

I finished gears of war and lost interest. I also have a load of stuff that is unopened, including games, extra wireless pad. All mint as new

Theres a remote, fast charger, component cable, vga cable, 11 top games etc. I was going to fleabay it, but it looks like about 90% of them are scams at the moment, so Im not bothering yet.

I believe the Xbox360 graphics is a variation of the R580.. it's just uber efficient. If only PC gfx cards were that efficient we'd all be better off.

Everyone is saying different things about the 360 GPU. Some say it's R5-00/80, others say it's R600 and some people are saying its a hybrid of the two. I have been trying to find concrete proof for some time now but can't find it. What exactly is it based on and where is the proof?

I personally have been led to believe its R600 simply because I have seen it crop up more in regards to the 360.

    Syd....

When you say the wii is crap alone I have to ask you if you have played Twilight Princess? I had a wii last week and I am well into this game myself. Its great fun and makes innovative and practical use of the wiimote/nunchaku. It is well worth the money imo, if you didn't have it for the gamecube that is. The graphics are quite nice too... much nicer than what some people would suggest/lead you to believe the Wii is capable of graphically.

If I can squeeze in past the advertising..

Firstly I don't think the X360 will make a nice DVD player - too noisy/bulky Get a slimline unit for 20 quid

However I think if you want a console just for single player games, the X360 would be where my money would go. I'm just waiting for a better spec'd model to come out before I consider it.

As far as the gpu goes, it's not exactly the same as any existing desktop part. Beyond3d I think have a good deconstruction of it, but basically it's similar to the R5*0 series in terms of processing power + number of shaders, but these shaders are unified shaders rather than descrete parts, so it's more like the R600 in that respect. It also has embedded DRAM which no desktop part is going to have for a long time, in fact there's a whole output processing unit on a seperate chip (with the DRAM), enabling 2x AA for 'free'. While quite a cludgy solution, I think it's very well matched to the demands of the console.
