Curiously, I misread the title as "Old fadges".

Is there an inscription on it, poss. latin?

This may help if it's military, http://www.militarybadges.org.uk/badges/badgestart.htm (MILITARY BADGE IDENTIFICATION WEB SITE)

This site contains digital photographs of more than one hundred army cap badges, http://www.geocities.com/regimentalbadge/index.html.

The above addys are for military badges, may not be what you are looking for, but then, you've not given us much to go on.

Dean & Son published an annual in about 1915, about the "two little orphan n****s" !

Was also listed as a strip cartoon by Guy Parker 1945-47

Just wondering since my brother was given a cast iron money box which depicts a black man lifting a coin into his mouth.... it's in the loft now of course but I'd like to know where that object came from too....
