I think we're just more aware of it since they started telling us to look out for terrorists.

Have you heard the ad on the radio asking us to phone a number if we think someone looks supicious?

    It's turning very 1984.

How much fuss does Counterstrike cause in the press?, Vs How much fuss did Hitman cause?. I'm not certain but i can't remember a great deal of "race" being portrayed in that?.

How many of you played BF1942, and found yourself constantly shooting germans?.

Sorry but its a game, it isn't real life. People will always look to subvert things to their own beliefs, and i'm sure games are no different.

So playing on a German side who murdered 10,000,000 and tried to wipe out anyone who didn't fit into the master race is in good taste?.

well for a start but that figure is very contentious, but I cant see your point - what do you expect the game to portray, a conflict with a multi-cultural enemy?

the fact is that america is most likely to be in conflict with Middle Eastern nations (and have been recently). Likewise in the cold war the Sovs were seen as the baddies.

re: True Lies, how many other terrorist groups have there been that have threatened America and also go for that kind of terror? Only Arab groups (yes there has been a few home grown groups but they are generally too incompetent to do anything, in addition any movie about them is fraught with danger in that it could encourage copycats etc).

I think you are going over the top.

The middle east is one of the most conflict strewn areas of the world that matter from an international relations pov, so it is natural that alot of games use it.

And a large proportion of the world's terrorist groups are Middle Eastern - and are the only ones threatening the USA.

Personally I think you are looking for rascism that isnt there

What has time got to do with it?, Nazi views are still current, are you trying to say those people that have died in the past don't count?. How dare you devalue their deaths because you arent living in the same time period as them.

You view is so over politcally correct its untrue. It is like saying that children in WWII didn't pretend to be a spitfire or meschersmit and try and shoot each other down in the playground.

Growing up playing computer games, is a lot different to growing up being taught hatred, and i'm not talking any specific race, colour, creed here. Northern Ireland is exactly the same, we're only just now seeing changes for the better, the generation that doesn't see the violence that has nothing to see, Eta in Spain etc etc.

Taught Hatred through the family/community is where you need to worry about, not computer games.

I think that in the current climate, there's a large amount of anti-Muslim sentiment.

Do the media reflect or determine public opinion?

Very hard to call - most likely a bit of both.

I'd suggest that unless the authors of the game have a specific political agenda to influence public opinion, or are in some way funded by people that do, the end result is likely just an unconscious projection of the current popular imagination.

Whether that current popular imagination is particularly ethical / tasteful / tolerant is another matter.

Sorry Akira if you feel like you've been flamed, it wasn't my intention. However i find the idea of political correctness over what we should play as a game should be censored because it may be over a current conflict is totally flawed.

I consider myself completely open to all races, creeds, colours, differences and try to live my life by do onto others as you would have them do onto you.

Because i play a game based on wwII, current iraqi conflict, stalker, hitman, or anything else. Doesn't mean i support a viewpoint or indeed further its message.

Just like some people will form groups on this game to further their "political/idelogical" messages.

Games don't breed these ideas, people do. People teach hatred not games.

Just like guns don't kill people, people kill people. Its the important part of this perspective that i'm very keen that people respect.
