The Munchies - Not a joint in sight, What the?

Since I gave up smoking last June, I have been getting the munchies, and it isnt for anything good, it is for sweet stuff like chocolate. I never had a sweet tooth, and didnt even like chocolate, or anything sweet really.

Thing is, it is really irritating me now, as I am craving sweet stuff from waking up in the morning, to going to bed a night, and I cant stop the cravings, even if I were to eat a load of chocolate, which I wouldnt anyway, because I dont have it in the house!

I'm going to the docs tomorrow, but I can see it being fun when I try and explain to him that what I am experiencing is identical to the munchies that "people" get when they are stoned

Has anyone got any top tips for overcoming this?, or is it just an unfortunate side effect of giving up smoking that I cant do anything about?

    Grrrrrr!

Lollipops. I quit smoking nearly 5 weeks ago and used lollipops to help deal with cravings/munchies/the need to have something in my hand.

It's helped me quite a lot, though being greek and bald, I seem to get a few Kojak references.

Just be sure to look after your teeth, and don't have too many per day.

Anything that keeps your hands and your mind occupied, why don't you take a pc or car to bits, that always kills my appetite if I'm caught up working on something.

I gave up the fags about 6 weeks ago after 20 years of smoking (what a waste)! I found bread to be my friend, I grab a handful of Hovis if the cravings hit me, I'm not joking, it seems to calm me down and take the edge of it.

    Thanks for the replies

    I'm not pregnant.

Chewing gum is what I have been having, but I'm getting through 3 packs a day, and its making my tongue sore

I'm trying to avoid anything sugary, as I'm the only one in my family that isnt diabetic.

Docs later, so I'll see what he says, it'll probably be along the lines of "GET OUUUUUUUT!".

I've experienced this, and the only way it stopped was when I gave up quitting smoking. Not been a chocolate fan but as soon as I start quitting, chocolate becomes my nicotine.

My boss told me he quit a few years ago and lollipops helped a lot.

As hard as it might be, you would probably be better off stopping yourself snacking too. The longer you keep up having *something* frequently, the longer it will take to go away. It'll be harsh to stop snacking too but you will get over it a lot quicker.

    Look for sugar free lollipops?

Good idea to see the doc though - especially if you've got family history of diabetes.. it can develop. Good luck.
