wow good find, aparently he "sounds remarkably like damon hill"
Also sounds a lot like Jenson Button...
His true identity has been known a while http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stig
His accent isn't what I expected though. Thought he;d sound older.
Reading that, only the "first" Stig was identified. Whether the same driver is still driving wasn't mentioned. However, it is an interesting point that F1 drivers take the same different line to the Stig, suggesting that he might not be a F1 driver. Of course, it could just be an elaborate ruse...
Yeah, the original Stig was identified (in McCarthy's autobiography I think) then promptly killed off !
Common rumours about the current Stig seem to indicate it's a few different folks. Suppose it'd have to be, like in the Winter Olympics version when "Stig" was on a snowmobile seemingly it was some Swedish pro snowmobile fella.
Dunno who the "regular" one is though.
Russ Swift always seemed likely to play at least some part and he seems to be the bookies favourite at the mo. His recent comments have added fuel to the fire but then he could be arsing about, much as Damon Hill has seemingly been prone to. Although I think Hill, currently anyway, has far too much on with other commitments to be arsing about on a test track :)
I thought it must have been an F1 driver of some sort after he took the Renault F1 car round a couple of years back but then it turned out that was Heikki Kovaleinen.
And in the one in America, I'm pretty sure that was a diffrent guy as well. :P
It was in Flat Out, Flat Broke by Perry, and it's the best motor-racing book I've read. 100% Awesome.
Ben Collins is generally thought to be the most frequent Stig. That Stig sounds more like Collins than Hill I think, but it's difficult to tell with the slight muffle.
That could have been anyone to be honest! I know one thing, it wasn't a fat stig - that was certainly a fat suit - the thin neck gave it away as much as the obvious padding :D
It would be stupid of them to use different Stig's in each episode. I bet it's some obscure driver that nobody's heard of.
Anyway didn't Clarkson say he doesn't want to do another series?

mmm.. dont like this tho, top gear cant die!
He wants more money then :p
give him more money!
none of them can be replaced now. they work too well off each other
It surprises me how popular it is around the world. My gf is German as some of you may know, and her sisters bf watches it religiously, as do all his mates.
Friend from Estonia said her bf and all his mates watch it too and yesterday a guy I know from Malaysia said him and all his mates watch it too! Never realised so many countries liked it.
ill tell you how popular it is.. the yanks watch it, complain that its got stuff edited out, and agree that a US version would be crap.
thats some accolade
it's always the highlight of my sunday evening viewing -
clarkson is the man ;)
i still think they need more big v8's from australia as they go like stink and they're fun to drive, caught some of the saloon series when i was back in NZ, and still think it's much more fun and exciting than f1 or any of the equivalents.
