i love a good shootout. but this is retarded, its like the idea the yanks had to make the goal posts wider cause people got really excited when someone hits one.

It happens in the japanese and korean leagues.. basicly if they score a golden goal during extra time then they get awarded 3 points, but if it goes to penalties then they get awarded 2 points instead.

    I wouldn't mind it

I'd rather ban the offside rule, than see this come into play.

If they introduce this in the football league, then I'll watch only premiership or non-league.

Penalty shootouts are the worst thing about cup competitions - I watch football to watch 90 minutes of football, not a series of pressurised spot kicks.

To me, the last world cup final was a drawn game of football - what happened after that really doesn't bother me.

    Don't need anymore tyvm ^^

I believe they need to priortise and get goal line technology sorted first.

Why bother with fancy goal line tech? Just allow video replays, and while you're at it mike up the refs for the public to hear, and clamp down on the spoilt brat behavior.

"Video replays" would be part of goal line technology, as it would show whether the ball crossed the line or not, pretty basic stuff to get a critical decision correct.

Indeed, rugby union no-nonsense style refereeing is the way to go

    Worst Idea Ever.!

well almost apart from the 1 I had but that's another thread totally.

What's next in the pipelines - Extra time multi-baaall and half-time raa-raa brigades.

Next they'll be tell me that all those years of learning to slide-tackle will be wasted as you cannot tackle opponents to get the ball off them!

    What they need to do is the following ;

    1) Video Replays
    2) Players need to respect the Referee more like in Rugby.
    3) Cap ticket prices. I mean charging away fans 45 quid for fulham is taking the michael just because Man Utd come to town.

Its a stupid idea, whats wrong with a draw. Why change something thats not really broken?

Agree with the video replays tho, just to cut out diving and cheating really.

And change the offside rule to the original, where if you're offside you're offside, no matter if you're 'active' or not. Thats whats really ruined football, with the crappy offside deicisions.
You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?

Dear, dear, dear. It's almost like their board sitting on their highchairs all day so they come up with crap like this. Its a sad thing really, football is going more and more to the dogs and its because of the people who actually run it and some of the players involved in it. Their even considering banning slide tackles/hard tackling. ITS A CONTACT SPORT!!!

If they want to improve it they first need to make the refereeing of the game well frankly, superior to what it is now. It's abysmal in the lower leagues particularly. I really feel that since they went pro, their standards have lowered quite significantly. They have always had a tough job, yes but I don't remember such a fuss about them 10 years ago.

Secondly they need to stop all the diving and poofta attitudes that players have when they get a knock, like I said it's a contact sport and it is to be expected, falling over in a bundle of pain fools no one apart from the officials especially when they get up and sprint down the line 30 seconds later. It completely spoils the game and needs to be cut out...I would hate to see how these players would fair in a scrum.

Lastly referees them selves need to take a no nonsense attitude like in rugby. If a goal keeper wastes time when taking a goal kick because his team is winning, then book him. Don't let him do it repeatedly and wait until the 80th minute before booking him; he knows he can get away with it otherwise. I've seen this all to often and most goal keepers and players do it, and if players don't get back 10 yards when a free kick is being taken...book them, they will think twice about doing it again. Loads of players will be booked/sent off initially but the message will get through in the end.

I also don't like players influencing the referees decisions by crowding round them, its things like this that get players booked and sent off....world cup and Rooney springs to mind. The players are there to play not officiate.

I'm all for goal line technology, but not full video replay evidence like in rugby. Football is a peddle to the metal sport for the full 90 minutes unless theres a serious incident like crowd trouble, weather, injury; if these things don't occur and if the ball doesn't go out theres always something happening even if the play can be a bit flat on times. If full video evidence comes about, it will be the end of flowing football. It's practical in rugby because it's a naturally start/stop sort of sport, football is not.

After USA 94, the US football governing body put these proposals forward to "improve" the sport.

    1) Goal size to be increased.
    2) Goals scored outside the box to be worth 2 points, Goals inside, 1.
    3) Goalies to wear helmets.
    4) Game to be split into 4 Quarters to increase advertising revenue.

    Pathetic
