    Made a modem today

    Wooo!

Sent some data with it at a mahoosive 600 BITS PER SECOND. Hold onto your pants.

For those interested and knowledgeable... we used binary ASK (or cba-sk as we liked to call it; the alternative scheme was ffs-sk).

Anyway, point of this post was to say that... CSE at Bristol Uni... 'tis cool. Pay attention ye young 'uns.

So that'd be why it's a fairly short post, then...?

I got an e-mail from UoB today:

    Dear Final Year Student,

Did you know that you could study an MSc in Computer Science without ANY previous computing background?

As long as your first degree is NOT Computer Science, you can enrol on the CS Department's "MSc in Computer Science" conversion course, subject to a good bacheolors degree classification and payment of fees. The course is designed around students coming from a variety of other disciplines.
Which amused me, since I am finally coming to the close of a 6 year medical degree. Do they not think I'll have had enough yet?

    Does sound fun though!

Half my course is Computer Science, the other half is Electronics Engineering. Keeps it fresh. Still, four years'll do me.

I thought most Masters were 4 years and Bachelors were 3 years? Although, it did take me 4 years to do my BEng Computer Engineering That too was literally half of the Computer Science lectures and half Electronic Engineering.

Bloody students... they just can't wait to get their 3p a can beans and 50p a pint lager and go off on one about their dissertation or degree...

You wait, James Morris will be in here soon to tell you all about his 40 years of schooling or something...

Now me rant's over, nice one Steve! Knock me up a Gigabit switch with ooh, 20 ports, for the weekend, yeah?

I'll lob two cans of Kwik Save 'Value' Beans and a four pack of White Lighting your way.

RS232C line receiver -> 555 timer -> through the channel (band-pass filter in a box that they give us to make life a little more interesting) -> op-amp -> rectifier -> LPF -> comparator -> RS232C line driver.

    So four chips
