    Reading festival

Ok so I've got me and my mate a ticket for the reading festival this year, (he owes me the cash ) ), but as its our first time going to a festival were abit lost on what we should take, I'm basically after advice as I want the cheapest stuff I.E tents and all that stuff as I'm aware most of it wont come back in one piece, should I take a cheap (£10) campstove, is it ok to use windbreakers to make abit of ground yours as I dont want to be cramped should we take some cheap (£10) chairs ???????

Don't take anything you wouldn't be upset if it got lost. Wear 6 layers and just bin them as you get further through the weekend and subsequently more and more oblivious to the temperature through a mixture of beer and other things.

To save on tents or sleeping equipment you could just rely on your ability to pull random festival chicks and crash in their tents. Worked a treat for my mate last year.

Don't bother with the stove, the small ones take forever to heat anything up, just get cans of sausage and beans and a spoon its pre cooked and will probably be quite warm from having been sat in you ovenesque tent all day.

The chairs, just wait till you get there, they're the same as you'd buy at home but if theres a few of you it'll be easy to haggle for a discount, plus its less to carry.

the essentials I have taken to leeds last 2 years:

Spirits (pints are easy enough to get, year its overpriced but its so much less to carry unless a few share the carrying when going to the shops)

Light clothing (6 tshirts, mix wearing inside and out)

jeans, combats, shorts.....mix depending on weather

walking boots, id advise against trainers

    tent + sleeping bag

something to hold a LARGE volume of water, possibly double up as a pillow (you will be wanting water to brush your teeth with in the morning etc, its available at the loos onsite)

    watherproof jacket

money, try to fit all your money and hide it in as many places on your person as you can, my mate did that and got mugged (so took the money out of his wallet, lost £5 instead of £70 he had on him)....erm if your going to use a cash machine you get like a £3 charge and the queues (like for the supermarket) can be massive so go at really antisocial times (5am works well)

for those chairs, if they are just for the campsite just sit on your dirty clothes! (bag them first)

    oh and bring wet wipes!

Several within a mile radius. Tesco is straight along the river bank. About a mile into town centre which has a Sainsbury, bit less into Caversham for Waitrose.

Another vote for wearing walking/decent boots
