Is this even a word?
Cannot goes to Can't... surely not Cannt?
where did you see it?
cannot? with an o missed out?
My guess is a typo
How about willn't rather than won't then?
Won't = will not?
Won't looks more like "wo not" to me :p
I think it should be willn't.
Craig.
Pretty sure that's not a word however...
It may be:
Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists :woowoo:
isnt that wouldn't?
a guy i used to live with @ uni, he always uses 'cannt' instead of 'cant' in his msn name, just makes him look like a berk. not sure if thats what they teach them at school in kent or whether he's just stupid :)
maybe he's just a cannt?
I'll get my coat
No, obviously he just cannt spell
Hey tigerboyce,
Any chance you can drop the size down on that enormous sig piccie?
Let me know if you cannt or willn't? :P
i would, he is teh sh3x god.
on the subject of annoying english spelling mistakes, my accounting lecturer always spells words ending in ly with ley, like quickley. Its terminally annoying!
I think you'll find that "till" is not from "until".
"till" is a shop till, used to hold money and make us laugh on those police video shows as some muppet struggles to open one.
The word you want is " 'til ", which is the abbreviation of until... so chop off the 'un' and stick an apostrophe before the 'til'.
eg. "The till is broken so you'll have to wait 'til it's fixed before I can take any money"
'Addicting' that REALLY winds me up...
Even more wound up now FireFox's spell checker hasn't picked up on it, meaning someone has decided it is a word... even though FireFox, according to it's own spell-checker, isn't a word!
Unfortunately that's in the OED:
Hence a'ddicting ppl. a. = ADDICTIVE a.
1939 [see ADDICTIVE a.]. 1965 Listener 23 Sept. 465/1 Lysergic acid..is not addicting. 1970 Nature 22 Aug. 773/2 The use of methadone, a synthetic drug that is addicting..is on the increase in New York. 1984 A. HAILEY Strong Medicine IV. xvi. 397 It was not addicting. Incredibly, adverse reports about its effect were almost nil.
Hey guys.
That's a constructive bit of lurking right there....
Hey, why can't I thank people in this thread?
Is it just me?
yes.
"More then anything."
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
A lot of bad grammar annoys me intensely, even more so when I catch myself doing it.
Shamelessly stolen from Bash.org
"Capitalisation is the difference between - I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse and I had to help my uncle jack off a horse"
Eats, Shoots and Leaves is a great book btw
Can only thank people after Tiggerai's post.....cannt thank people before....why cannt I? Why can not I? Why can't I not?
because they're older posts... I guess they dont have the right database flag or something equally as technical.
I can thank Dareos ?
My first post... I have 2 on this page.
you're welcome :)
Man this thread is awesome.
no Can Not, YOU are awesome...
can someone put this thing out of its misery?
I thought that "can not" was bad usage. You are supposed to say 'cannot' or "can't".
Their our many grammatical mistake's that irritate me. What do they teach people in school these days?
Another really irritating thing. My brother in law often replaces the word 'thank' with the word 'spank'. So he will say "Spank you very much", or "Spanks a lot". I feel like kicking his stupid face in.
Why thank you.
No offense, but where the hell do people get this kind of idea from? "can't" is a contraction of TWO WORDS. You DO NOT see people writing "DONOT" and contracting it as "DON'T". "can not" is 2 seperate words. "cannot" is a grammatically accepted grammatical error.
Anyways, if anyone cares, I go by the s\n Can Not on every forum ever, and I found this thread by typing my s\n into google with a few other words.
Well actually....link
till is also perfectly acceptable.
Speaking of two words, I seem to notice the rise of an apparent new contraction of aswell (joining the words as and well, for those of you wondering) appearing on forums.
I know at least one person who pronounces as well as aswell too.
I didn't fight in three world wars, etc.
Bunch of aswells.
[goes back to writing vitriolic, hate-filled letters to the Daily Mail.]
It's been said time and again, but the one that really gets my goat is people mistaking They're for Their..
please let this thread die :)
it is a word in yorkshre :) eg thi cannt do that :juggle:
