Sick, tired and trying to please everbody

I'm currently on a 5week work placement right now in a school but as I'm coming to the last week i cant stop feeling shattered and completely drained.

I'm constantly having to please my teacher who i shadow, the year coordinator, the internal observer, the head teacher and not forgetting the uni observer

AND now today i have just been told that on my final day I'm going to be assessed by the people who assess how institutions train new teachers.

the frustrating thing is that everyone has their own style of doing things and I feel I'm running around trying to please everybody but myself.

I know this sounds alien to some of you guys but i just feel i need to get it off my shoulder

next week is my last week there, its been positive all the way through until now.

I though I'd have a slow week to finish off nicely and cool down however they've chosen to pile on the workload as now their going to be assessed on how their training me. Basically their bricking it and want me to cover everything that already trained staff find difficult.

Think of it this way mate - you get through this, and you can cope with anything.

just get your head down and count down the days, a week is nothing really and youv got the "finish line" feeling when its all over to look forward to.

I know not long left, just been venting my frustration out after being told to create a timetable of what i teach during the day so i created this (also posted this over at tes.co.uk)

I'm on my placement in a foundation stage unit which has both nursery and reception children in the same class.

My life has been non-existent since being on placement as the expectations from the school are that I have no life whatsoever.

    A typical day mon-fri

    7:30am wake up
    8:10am leave house
8:30am arrive at school - set up classroom activities that the cleaner has either knocked over, sucked up by the hoover or stuff that will dry out over night
9:00-9:10am lets children in and do register - allocate nursery to activity table and allocate NN and TA
    9:10-9:25am reception Literacy - shared reading/writing
    9:25-9:40am reception/nursery literacy - guided reading/writing
9:45-10:00am let kids go out and grab nursery to do stage 2 phonics
10:00-10:15am meant to have a break but still haven't taken a single one over the five weeks here
10:15-10:30am grab reception and now do stage 4 phonics
    10:30-10:45am prepare for numeracy activity
    10:45-10:50am reception numeracy mental/oral starter
    10:50-11:05am focus group numeracy activity
11:05-11:20am hover around activities including child initiated activities to question, assess and support children
    11:20-11:30am tidy up
    11:30-11:45am a bit of a sing song
11:45-12:05pm eat lunch with children - settle kids down for TA who watches over them
12:05-12:45pm rest of lunch which is occupied with photocopying work samples for profiling and observations
    12:45-1:00pm prepare afternoon activities
1:00-1:10pm register and settle down children
1:10-1:15pm send nursery off to target tables and get reception children to read high frequency words
    1:15-1:30pm reception/nursery second guided reading
    1:30-1:45pm reception/nursery second guided writing
1:45-2:45pm only substantial time I get to observe and support a free flow session
    2:45-3:00pm tidy up
    3:00-3:25pm carpet story or songs
3:25-3:30pm get coats and ‘sit nicely now’
Where are all the parents? Take those left children down to reception
    3:40-5:15pm meeting either school/year group/ whole year group staff/ workshop/
    5:15-5:45pm prepare for next day
Thankfully at 6:00pm the caretaker locks the school up so I can go home
6:00-6:30pm get home (notice it takes longer to get home than go to school in the morning!)
    7:00-7:45pm dinner
8:00-9:00pm 5mile run to destress and also just get away from things
9:30-10:30pm write lesson plans or annotate them with some evaluative comments
    THE END

the jump out point there where contrasted with my day is "eat lunch with children". as i NEED my lunch to try and relax. not having that option would be hell

edit: also i dont work with children even if some poeple try to act like it.

fair point until i was told on my first day i should help the teaching assistants as i have more reign over them and also it helps me know them better.

Really considering if i made the right career choice and feeling like I'm questioning my ability all the time. Something that I haven't done so far bcoz I was graded previously on placement as "a natural"

sorry to dissapoint you but that calander you posted of your day looks pretty normal for an average days work, infact I'd argue that most peoples calanders for their job are much worse eg: getting up earlier, travelling more, getting home later with busier tasks than tidy up and Carpet - stories or songs.

sorry to be harsh but get used to it - its the way a working day is

I quite like the fact that you get to wake up at 7.30
I'm halfway into london at that time of the morning. If you add my commuting time onto my contracted hours, I do well over 60 hours a week. Yes, it's my choice, but I have to do this to get the decent experience to go further in my career. It sucks, but that's what we've gotta do.

We won't argue that teaching is a stressful job, but you must have known what you were signing up for!

Welcome to the world of working Hasnath!

I take on a dozen or so uni students each year for IT undergrad placements - One was actually shocked that I expected him on-site, working by 9am!

Whilst I partly agree with ikonia, having juggled the pressures of a job in IT and full time education, its not easy managing your time.

Just think, by the time you've finished this, and then had the remaining few weeks at uni, then you can have a nice long summer break (I'm guessing this is for a uni degree...)

8:30 till 6 with an hour for lunch isn't a particularly long day at work, it's no more than a lot of people end up doing (I prefer 9:30 till 7 myself as traffic is better).
