i've got tickets to see it tonight i really cant wait
Just found this trivia on it.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416449/trivia
Awesome movie
I wanted to go see it last night, but they had showings at 5 and 6pm, which is when I was the other side of London, and again at 8 and 9pm, which is too late. Why couldn't they have had one at 7pm? Why? WHY!!??
So I'll be going on Tuesday instead :D
Pointless rant aside, I'd read a lot of bad reviews, saying that although it's visually stunning, it's nothing more than a throw away epic, then I read in the Sunday Times this morning it gets four stars....
wow !
What a great film. And, co-incidentaly, BBC2 showed the 1950s "The 300 Spartans" the day after I saw the new version.
Frank Miller and Chris Watts have dished us up another visual feast, with amazing makeup and fx. My son reckons it's "light on plot" but I know the original Greek legend the film was based on and that's all the plot there was !
(already posted in another thread.. missed this one )
Great yarn. Stunning graphics. Xerxes looks like he belongs in a S&M club though. Thespians what thespians. Its only movie and historical accuracy well none really. Best enjoyed as it is as there is nothing deep about it.
erm well I think i'll prefer the 1950s version then as that has a bit of historical accuracy to it.
This link said it's all Hollywood garbage esp slates the latest one and the true story is added at the end.
http://iranpoliticsclub.net/history/300/
That link actually made me laugh a little. I didn't realise the 2007 version was so bad. (Xerxes and the S&M / Tit Ring stuff was funny awell :) )
That link seems to miss the point that 300 is a work of fiction based on a comic which was itself based on a fictionalised account of the battle of Thermopylae. It's also from the "Iran Politics Club" - seeing as Iran has officially complained about the film and the way it portrays Persians it's probably safe to say that no Iranian-influenced review is going to talk about the fact that fiction-or-otherwise it's a film made for entertaining people, and entertain people it certainly seems to be doing.
The current Hollywood trend seems to be action films with their roots firmly in comics, this is no different except that if you dig deep the basic story is based on a real event.
Anyway, going to see it wednesday, looking forward to it rather!
ffs someone needs to calm down and remember that this film is FICTIONAL. The idea that portraying the Persians as they are in this film is anit-Iranian is comparable to Britons taking offence because the Celts were shown as uncivilised and uncontrollable hordes. However, something tells me that that site is going to argue against anything the West produces. The words
and the cartoon of the "new London Underground logo" complete with bomb belt suggests that there is a serious fanatic at work. :rolleyes:Quote:

Not seen or read anything about this, definitely going to see it now.
Checked it out on http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/300/
and it seems to have had fairly average reviews across the board. Seems the main criticism is that it's pretty shallow despite the cinematography. Mind you, it's only opinion.
Lol at the iranian politics club link.
I was wondering how long it would take for historical accuracy's of this graphic-novel-based-film to be mentioned.
Hows this for an inaccuracy, how does the king of sparta get a scottish accent?
Maybe he admired them for the homoerotic trait of going naked under their kilts....a theme which seems highly prevelant in this movie (at least, that's what they tell me in the reviews)...
First link I pulled out from google..LOL
But the point is are they lying about the film e.g.
Hell, this new version is more like a Fantasy! It has Warriors riding on giant Rhinoceroses, mythical creatures, handsome brave Greek Warriors, handsome brave Greek King Leonidas and beautiful Queen Gorgo, Ugly Savage Persians, deranged Persian Immortals with scary masks and of course Xerxes portrayed as the usual Persian Barbarian Tyrant! Each Greek Warrior kills tens and hundreds of Persians before he dies bravely in the battle!
Can't wait to see it.
and yes, the Thespians are in it too. Leonidas makes a great gag about their numbers Vs those of the Spartans...
Its a very shallow film, but if you just want to be entertained who cares. I was happy to sit there and have a laugh at the occasional gags, and watch a good action film.
Saw it last night and have to say it was visually very entertainig and brilliantly done but it was so Hollywood story wise i'm surprised they had'nt changed the story in so far as it was the Americans and not the Spartans who held off the Persians !!! :undecided
It surely can't be better than Sin City, can it?
yep, shallow, but a very good film!
I thought it was VERY funny, it IS a very entertaining film but when it ended, I couldn't help but feel a bit let down even if it IS a good film, I'm going to watch it with my girlfriend possibly next Sunday :)
Constant propaganda speeches constant pleas for the spartans to lay down their weapons which went on ignored and so much for fighting in the shade, eh? lol :D
saw it tonight, awesome movie! watched it in digital cinema :D
Seconded :D Although I thought it was going to be be way OTT from the trailers, but it wasn't. And it was pretty funny ... mostly in a homoerotic context - there's a lot to be spoofed and parodied!Quote:
Its a must see just for the visuals. Like I said dont try to look to deeply and enjoy it. I am sure you will.
People's opinions will vary, but I enjoyed300 slightly more than I did Sin City. However, this apparently makes me gay (according to my so called's!).Quote:

I loved it, yes its verging on style above contented but I dont care :)

Arcadians though. Something along the lines of:
Leonidas: You, what is your profession?
Arcadian Soldier: I'm a potter, sir.
Leonidas: And you, Arcadian, what is your profession?
Arcadian Soldier: I'm a sculptor.
Leonidas: And you?
Arcadian Soldier: I'm a blacksmith.
Leonidas: [Turning towards the Spartans] Spartans! What is your profession?
Spartans: Harooh! Harooh! Harooh!
Leonidas: See old friend, I brought more soldiers than you did.
^ Made me chuckle when the first guy goes "I'm a potter" - lol he just sounds so feeble.
Theres loads of good quotes from this film. Is it possible to get the script from anywhere?
There are a few quotes here: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/300
:)
Edit:
Xerxes: It would be nothing short of madness for you, brave King, and your valiant troops to...perish...all because of a simple misunderstanding. There is much our cultures could share.
Leonidas: Have you noticed? We've been sharing our culture with you all morning.
Tis a good film, about time a bit of quality turned up
Excellent movie
Leonidas: Dilios, I trust that scratch hasn't made you useless.
Dilios: Hardly, my Lord. It's just an eye. The gods saw fit to grace me with a spare.
I enjoyed it but I hate all the kids who now run around yelling that madness/sparta line.
I saw this and it made me laugh:

Sweet, can i get the original gif/program used to turn that clip into a gif?
Man I wanna see this film :D
Saw it on Sunday evening great film.
"TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!"
...ok so I've only seen the trailer. I will see it shortly.
How do you make those slimline 'xxx user' sigs? Lots of people seem to have them and they all seem to have the same size and styles applied to them.
EDIT: *Reads wikipedia*. Hmmm interesting. I never knew about these.
the movie was ok but nothing breath taking TBH.
Disapointing.
Went to see it as a birthday treat (my missus would veto it if it was any other day of the year) and I wasn't that impressed.
As a standalone movie it was watchable, as a movie I'd really been looking forward to for quite a while it wasn't up to much.
I didn't really like the narration, and it all seemed a little hurried. The cinematography was pretty special, and a lot of the characters were admirable (Leonidas was superb), but I've seen better suicidle hero movies which made you hope up to the end that they make it, even though you know they won't.
But to paraphrase a movie review I read before seeing the movie, I'm certain that should I have to spend more than 20 seconds in the presence of those Spartans, a pair of ovaries would spontaneously form in my lower abdomen....
you're right about it feeling a bit hurried, but its only a small point for me.
I wouldn't mind seeing a full directors cut of it though.
I thought this was a fantastic film...but I was the only one in the cinema. Everyone there hated it!
I don't know what they were expecting form the director of Sin City but most thought it was a bit too much fantasy and not enough fact and historical accuracy.
I thought the rusty, golden haze they washed the film in worked really well, similar to the green haze you saw in the Matrix. The action was great and I left with that feeling that I used to get when watching Karate kid when I was about 7 or 8...I wanted to kick some ass!
I can see how this film has caused controversy in iran and other middle eastern countries as if you can't see past the fact it is not meant to be a historical account, all of Xerses horde are portrayed as sub-human tyrants hell bent on conquering and destruction. Seeing as he is quite a well known historical figure, making him out to be a strange camp, transexual type thing may have been a bit close to the bone for some. Personally i'm all for it!
I also like the narration. It was the guy who played Boromir in LOTR, perfectly suite to this kind of part.
All in all an excellent film, just try not to take it too seriously!
