I love my Rio Karma of 2 and a half years. Unfortunately, the battery life is down to 4/5 hours, so I will need to replace it soonish.

Rockbox. It's the only way you'll duplicate the Karma feature set, unless you take a space cut & buy a Karma-based Trekstor Vibez

That's the great thing about my old Archos, it takes AA rechargables so when they start to die, I buy some new ones for about 8-10 hours playback!

My windows PPC. I use it via bluetooth stereo headphones, can play via my in car system, can transfer music to my PC at work, has shuffle facility via the latest WMP. To be honest I carry a phone all the time, why carry an extra device?. Can also play any codec if I want it to, Am currently limited to 1.5gig of music but I can shuffle it when I am at my home or work PC.

Rockbox looks excellent, thanks for bringing it to my attention hex. Pity it doesn't work with my Zen Micro... maybe I will look at getting an X60 and rockboxing it

Heh, I have enough on my plate trying to mod supcom and messing with homebrew on my psp...

worth having a look, but I think they use TI processors, which don't have much/any open documentation making a port more trouble than its worth I reckon..

Currently playing with a set of motorola HT820, they belong to a bloke I work with. Sound quality is pretty good, but they are quiet large. On the plus side it has volume and next/previous track controls on it. Having said that my phone has voice control of those features anyway. Theres a lots of info on the various brands, and links to reviews on
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php
Might take a bit of hunting but its in there.
