i dont really think so, the Killer NIC guy was an example of what happens when its done wrongly, blatant spamming under the pretence of providing suppourt. but while scan shows peeps can be valued members of the forum, places like komplett and yoyo show that they can keep it to there own forum and not feel the need to sway opinion in smartshoppers/hardstuff/help or wherever

True but many companies wouldn't be so obvious about it Sure they could come on here as a regular user and do it anyway, but it almost legitimises it if they are invited in..

We value companies participating. They do not sway option, reviews or editorial in anyway. HEXUS is proud to be one of a very rare breed of tell-it-like-it-is news and reviews sites.

We can't please everyone all the time though - its a very hard balance to get right.

I think the clear evidence of impartiality is the Right2Reply

HEXUS have allowed for the fact that vendors will not be happy - will complain bitterly about certain elements of testing and results...

...and that they should have a platform on which to raise these issues

Many of them will be advertisers - but they all get hit if the product is 'wrong'

If you want to see 'bias' in action - just pick any mainstream IT magazine that tests the graphics performance of systems using Doom 3

Agreed a balance is very hard to get right

I just don't think its a good idea to flood the forums with companies..it certainly does make sense to have some on here, and can result in great things for the community, as long as there are limits.

And I wasn't really talking about editorial, thats a separate thing in my opinion That said *all* media is always biased..but thats another debate for another thread.

    Matt,

    I have an idea...

Given that this is a 'community' - would it not be possible to make a small FTP area available - let the HEXUS.massive upload their ideas for icons - and then parade them here for feedback/review etc

You might be able to get these guys to produce them for you

My only real complaint (if you can call it that) with the companies involved, both in the community and providing support, is that their areas are too prominent. I'd prefer if there was a section and then sub-sections for the OEMs and etailers. Just seems to detract from the community itself, making it appear they're more important than the members themselves, especially when they're so high up the tree.

Given that all of the posters are in the community - and they need help etc - probably not a bad thing to have the 'life craft' so easy to find

Gav, go to the main forums page, where everything is listed.

On the right hand side there's a 'collapse' button... hides the lot for you.
