I never quaranteened any of my plants when I had my tank, never had any problems.... are you sure it was the plants that caused the issue?
Just out of interest, which shop did you get them from?
-
I never quaranteen mine tbh but i think it all depends on who you buy them from in the end...... my fish and plant supplier is very good.
If you buy from a big chain like jolly's etc then u can almost be certain that it isnt work S***.
However becuase of thew warm sunny weather lately im having a really bad problem with algae :( It starting to stain my tank tbh and pissing me off.

Aww no! that's terrible!
I don't think we ever quarantined our plants when we had our tanks... Just one of those things I suppose.
But to lose a shark and a couple of loaches is horrible :(

Tbh i dont use live plants anymore. algae and stuff at this time of the year would cause quite a few problems. They are nice but you really need to wash them before you put them in your tank. There is a substance called stress coat which you use when doing a water change. I would advise ppl to maybe wash it in that. It wont do much but its better than nothing if you really must have plants....

Plants came from Cumberland Aquatics, nothing has changed in the tank in well over a year other than adding the odd fish.
New plants went in a week last Sunday, Saturday noticed what looked like white spot, removed plants, treated the tank, Tuesday morning started getting casualties..
-
You're reasonably local to Leicester aren't you Trig? I recommend Leicester Aquatics on Welford road, top quality stock, never had a problem with anything bought from there...
-
You did remember to take out all the plants and carbon from the filter before you treat for white spot? Also if you are treating for white spot it is best if you leave the aquarium light off.
I've never really liked live plants in an aquarium. The fish just eat them and in a few weeks look terrible, then you end up getting floating debris that is rotting contaminating the water.

Leicesters about 7 miles away, will have to pop in there at the weekend and see what they have..
Ferral, yes I took the carbon filter and all of the plants out and the light was left off..
I prefer real plants to fakes, as do the fish, well, as did..
I just keep the plants in check, removing dead/dying bits once a week, none of my fish were really big plant eaters...

Must admit I hate treating white spot, really nasty disease and can kill pretty quickly. I would treat the tank again beore restocking it. Treat it to kill anything off then give everything a damned good clean to be on the safe side.
I was keeping Convict Chichlids and my largest I had for around 5 year. Got a few other Chichids for the tank and one of them brought in Anchorworm. Even though I treat for Anchorworm it killed all my fish off within 5 days :(
-
Aye, tanks gonna be left empty for a few days, everything in it will get boiled and then I'll start looking at the restock next weekend maybe, gotta try n get the Tubby done for PV tho so thats getting priority atm...
-
That's a major shame! To be honest I've never thought to quaranteen any of my plants. How would you know there's a problem with your plants unless you have a fish with them?
Touch wood, I've not yet had a problem with any of the plants I have added to my tank. Although I must admit not all of the plants I've added have lasted well, I don't have the green fingers needed!
-
Have you tested your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite etc)? What are they?
Also make sure no polish or cleaning agents have been spayed near the tank. It might have contaminated the water.
-
All of the water is now in the front garden lol...
Tank is ebing cleaned over this weekend then we'll see about restocking next week..
