Internet taken over by the text/CS generation?

This has been bothering me for a while now, and it has come to a head tonight.

I can stand nothing more than having to wade through forums, IRC and chats with people on MSN that can't talk properly.

I'm talking about having to decipher stuff like:

Hi m8 u want 2 go play sum CS l8r?

Now, I can understand talking like that in an SMS message, you've got a limited number of characters to make use of.

But online, on forums, IRC, MSN or wherever, what's stopping people typing something properly? There's no character limit, unless you feel like typing out some Tolstoi tome into a forum reply box.

Am I alone in feeling the pain? Should I not give a monkeys?

It's frustrating to the point of massive annoyance, and the desire to press the ban button repeatedly until they all go away is very strong.

And I'm not even going to start with people that can't spell properly, to the point that words merge together, letters are forever swapped around and you can just SMELL the too fast typing and lack of concentration.

    Someone make it go away

This really irritated me, its not as if it takes longer to spell something correctly, especially after youve alternated between upper case, lower case and numbers.
Some thing eles that intensely annoys me is the addition of lol after every clause, regardless of whether its a funny post or not.

most phones have some form of predictive input these days so surely its more difficult to speak in this manner via text...confused??

(i must admit to using "u" instead of "you" a lot of the time both here & via text - i shall consider myself chastised!)
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is

This also annoys me alot, but I still use simple things like "u" instead of "you" and all that as petrefax said.

There's a time and a place for it, and it's in text messages and in game chat... people don't have to speak like uneducated retards the rest of the time...

    I agree completely.

I know that this is my first post on these forums, but it's a subject I feel strongly about!

After all, don't these people have to type properly for reports/homework/assignments? I know I had to when I went to uni & college. I would have to learn how to type all over again to use 'Hax0r' speak.

I don't even type like that after beer!

Some people don't like wasting their time writing the Queen's english.. As long as it is understandable I'm fine with it. I have to admit that if someone writes a whole post in txt talk It can be very painful on the eye.

That's just being lazy. How is the inability to type a sentence properly wasting time? You must save microseconds at most.

It wasting more time for the people that have to decipher it.

*blink* In assignments??? sheesh, now that really is taking the biscuit..

I hate it with a passion, in fact on the website I help run (and in the associated chat room), we've banned it as it drives us nuts when we read through for modding purposes..

Besides, typing the full sentences out helps improve your typing

and don't even get me started on "733t" speak...

Its quicker for me to key in full sentances (with abbreviations) on my Sony/Erricision T100 than txt speak, or what ever the slang name is for it.

Also, typing full sentances does improve your typing, speed, ability and touch-type capabilities. Everything comes with practice!
