    Spam - what do they achieve?

    OK, so spam in an attempt to get people to buy stuff - that's a good idea (an annoying one nonetheless.)

    However, why write "vi@grA" instead of "viagra" to circumvent message rules blocking such messages? If the person has set their e-mail client to block viagra advers clearly they DON'T WANT ANY.

    Waste of the spammer's time and bandwidth if you ask me - can't see the logic.

    Still, I guess there's the fact that 1 response in a million is a good result is the reason.

    Thoughts?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Wiffle - here it's illegal unless you "opt-in" but in the US they've gone for an "opt-out" style law - which is a fricking nightmare as the opt-out methods usually just add your address to more spam lists.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Mailwasher (freebie for one address) has worked extremely well for me, has cut down spam traffic by at least 90%

    As for Spam senders, excuse me, but nothing a bullet to the temple wouldn't sort out.

    If only

    But, as for the point as to why they bother, well, it's a free country, so they say, advertisers see everybody as fair game, and they know, they just know, that one sale in a thousand e-mails is probably worth it to them.

    If there's such a thing as Karma, all their tyres will go flat in a snowstorm, hopefully.

    karma?

    last time a spammer has his address posted on the net, they started to receive 1000 phone calls, spam messages & bits of junk mail an hour - so they tried to sue because it was unfair

    I say we start a vigilante anti-spam group that goes around laying whoopass on spammers.

    Spammers wouldn't spam if it didn't work. Bottom line is sadly it does for a small minority and as such is an effective form of advertising. I know fo people who make a living from spamming, sad though that is it's basically the same as junk mail only not targeted in the same way.

    My objection is when someone sets up a clean hotmal account and then without giving the addy out to anyone within 30 minutes is receiveing adverts for larger breasts and legal viagra. If that person doesn't wish to recieve such information they shouldn't have to.

    As for what happened to a certain well known spammer it was mroe than a tad ironic and imho well and truely deserved
