    Smile upgrading graphics card

    Hi hexus people.
Some help or advice would be appreciated.
Purchased system 10 months ago mainly because my son wanted to play the latest games on pc. Have been very happy with performance of 512mb ati radeon x1900xt. My son tends to play games at highest settings. He is saying that some games will not play at highest resolution.(yes i know i can turn resolution down) At what point would you think it was worth upgrading graphics card and to what. Also currently running XP. Am i better of upgrading to Vista?

    Thanks Robbo

I think that to allow you play games at full graphics again you should upgrade the CPU... I have the X1900XT and it is great but my CPU holds it back in terms of game performance.

The new game Crysis, DX9 version, is run on X1900XT's(talking about the video's we have seen) and that is full graphics so have a look at upgrading the CPU.

Vista will be required for most the new games coming out so it would be a good choice to upgrade that as well.

Make him wash the car, take out the trash, get a part time job/paper round etc etc. and for every pound he puts in say you'll double his money for a new card.

I run a 512mb 1800xt and all my games at 1600x1050. There is no real need to upgrade simply because you can't get max resolution.

Imho it's not worth upgrading until games require Directx10 (ie vista) unless you can get some cash back from that x1900xt.
