    Mice

After managing to get rid of a mouse at my mum's house last week one casually walked across the kitchen floor today when me and the missus was watching TV.

Anyway he ran off once I started moving over to him, funny thing is we rent in a new build apartment block on the third floor. I can't believe that they managed to get up here!

I'll call the exterminators tomorrow but they won't be able to come and lay some chemical traps until the weekend so I'll be using the old fashioned ones until then.

My question is, do mice actually like cheese?

Chocolate seems to be the bait of choice. Didnt work for my mouse though.

Not sure about your local council, but ours does it as a free service, so its worth giving them a ring (yours not ours).

We had mice in our kitchen but didn't want to use poison in case they went somewhere to die and stank the whole place out. You never know where they'll pop their clogs and that's not the kinda smell you want to be eating your breakfast with. We've also got a dog and we didn't want her finding a dead mouse which had been poisoned in case it affected her as well.

You can get electric traps that are expensive but definitely work. We came down one morning to see a little tail sticking out of the trap Better to get them there and then so you know that the problem has been sorted imo. The snap traps are good but can be a pain(quite literally) to set if you have to get it under the sink for example. We used peanut butter on our traps and that seemed to tempt the little blighters.

Our house is an old thatched roof cottage, and we always have loads of mice in the roof. Traps are all useless.

you can buy these high frequency noise devices that give out a sound that we cant hear and it really works well to keep them away.

    Next doors cat helps too

i was laying a new mains supply in my mates loft a couple of weeks back, i saw no clues to mice in there as i was pulling up the insulation etc, finished the job and asked him if he wanted the header tank checking while i was up there, after i got the nod i lifted the cover to find a mouse floating round in the water, must have been thirsty or fancied a swim..

Rat/mouse poison causes massive dehydration and they'll go straight for the nearest source of water. Could have had poison up there.

I had the same thing a few years ago with a dead bird in the header tank, only noticed something odd when the water in the shower smelled rancid. My own damned fault for not putting a cover on the header tank, lesson learned.

I agree with the chocolate as bait, they love anything strong smelling.

I was grossed out last week, went on a Food Hygiene Course and the Course Leader said that a Mouse can dislocate it's skull and squeeze it's body through really tight spaces if there was food on the other side ( She held up a Pen tube as an example ) bleurrghh bleurrgh bleurrgh that's just wrong. She noticed me and asked why I had gone white.

Yeah, i've heard that as well. If you can stick a biro through a hole, a mouse can get through it

I use a fishing rod with a small hook, baited with chocolate. The hard part is hooking them once they nibble. Very easy to reel in. Not good served as sushi.
