Well done for braving the elements!
Watched it all on the telly and t'was great Felt sorry for Garcia but Harrington deseved it more, apart from trying to do a VdV on the 18th that is.
I used to go watch pretty much every tournament on these shores but got totally cheesed off with the sport and haven't been for a few years. Think I'll change that next year though. Birkdale is a great track.
Ya my first year was last year and I enjoyed it so went this year.
I went for all 4 days and it was ruddy freezing, on the Sunday I was sitting in the stand behind 3rd green with a brolly from 9 to about 2:30 and it was nasty.
But the golf was amazing and I saw pretty much all the movers and it was just pure drama, you could see the players under the strain, it is amazing these men can play golf that well under that pressure with distractions everywhere.
Anyone who likes watching golf just has to go to see like at least a Sunday of the open, because you feel all the drama of the players, it must be up there with going to a world cup final.
enjoyed what I saw -very good.
You were there? Top man.
I watched it on the box - I actually missed the F1 to watch, and had to stay up late to watch the highlights of the carnage.
Was proper sports drama the Open this year. Pardraig hits it in the water twice, so garcia needs par on the 18th, Garcia misses a 10 footer for the title (it rolls around the edge of the hole), so its a playoff, on the 18th playoff hole, Garcia misses again (roles around the edge again!) for a tie and pardraig rolls it in for the title.
Best finish ev0r.
European winner as well. Only downers were Mickleson not turning up and going out early, and Tiger just ploding through and finishing 5 or 6 shots back. need the big guns to be in the mix for added excitment.
Hehehe I saw it all when I mean all I saw it all!
I saw Harrington's birdies including his birdie at 13 and 3 at 14 which was huge! I was about 3 meters away from where the ball when in the burn before the green at 18, and I rushed out of the packed 18th to the first green and saw all the drama there, then I went stright to 16 and was just left of the tee so saw serigo hit the pin from almost his perspective and his reaction. I am still in shock what I saw and how much I saw. The only player I missed was Romero but I followed Harrington for much of his round and you could see Harrington was on a a mission he was knocking pins down from 180 yards away.
Very true, most casual viewers really don't get that. That is until they play in a pro-am or something and get announced onto the first tee with a small crowd watching. Then they have a teeny, tiny taste of it. And realise very quickly that it's not fun
I've seen folk practically pass out. And very rarely do they make anything resembling a swing. Even if they carve their shot into a field they're thrilled to just make contact !
Enjoyable open this year wasn't it...good to see a European win for a change.
Stuff the golf it ruined my usual family holiday in July,to see my mum back home.
I had to put it back because they were charging £1200 instead of the normal £425 for a caravan the money grabbing gits.
Supply and demand If your Mum has a house near the course she should have rented it out !
I have played in two junior opens at my club which has about 30 people watching you at the first tee and with some old guy announcing your name and club like your some pro!
I think I was the most nervous I had ever been in my life, and I had loads adrenaline so I punched (rushed short swing) a 3 wood 270 yards down the middle which was complete luck.
Yeah I saw it on TV..but would have been awesome to be there.
I was hoping for Garcia to win tbh, would have been good for him and I think he deserved it..but hats off to Harrington, he played it right on the last tiebreaker hole (playing it up to the river) and his confidence paid off in the end. Was a good open, lets just hope for a British win next time eh, however unlikely that is
Never really watched golf before but saw it as my dad was watching it in the same room. It was excellent!

Well our British players are quality( most) but I don't think they handle the pressure of being British and how much they are expected to win, and plus you have be at the top of your game. Looking at the British players, imo who will win out next major? David Howell more than any of the others.
