So Office Chairs, an important bit of kit!

    ...but rarely talked about

What do you guys sit on and what do you look out for when buying a chair?

I've had one of those super cheap £30 immitation leather chairs for a while before, it did the job but i always wondered, how much extra do you have to pay to get something that is actually good?

I've heard of Herman Miller (sp) chairs that are apparently the top dog and £££.

But i have no knowledge of the chairs in the price bracket between those two, £30 - £600

EDIT: By office chairs i mean computer/desk chairs etc that you spend a lot of time on

I used to use old cheaper computer chairs - but since getting my Herman Miller Aeron chair on the cheap from work i really will not use anything else - it rules. http://www.aeronchair.co.uk/index.cfm

Is worth it if you can stretch to the crazy price.

I have something similar to this - the seat is the same but the base is plastic rather than chrome. The high back, arm rests and leather make it very comfortable and I dont feel the need to spend hundreds on something that can adapt to my back contours or something. I saw similar chairs for around £40 on that website which is about half what I paid for mine about 2 years ago.

I use a £30 cheap leather chair too, and for the amount of time my buttocks are on it for I should buy something a bit more better next time... regardless it's not all that bad. Got it from PC World so I was able to sit about on it before I decided to purchase it :3

Kinnarps, as supplied by my Access To Work team in 2001. Been repaired once under warranty (10 yr) and THE most comfy chair in the house.

    Cost £350 mind !

Yes but you need a good chair , espesially if your doing terminal work . Good posture is very important. I had to change my home computer chair recently . A leg broke off -got quite a shock I can tell you. It was due to metal fatigue.

The right chair is very important. Avoid cheapo stuff (like Argos if you can! tried one of theirs once and the wheels didnt even fit on the base!), but on the same note just don't go for expensive posh leather ones too ... had one of them and it did my back in after three days!

Most important thing I look for is the chair having a decent shaped large back rest....

Bought an Argos chair a while back for around £50. Imitation leather and plastic arms. It was okay at the start but the leather base became nackered very fast. The other week I was leaning down on the plastic arm (whilst getting up out of the chair) and it snapped completely off at the screw. Leaving me in a pile on the floor.

I've promised myself to spend a bit more in the future on a good chair, although it's hard to justify the costs when it could mean a better cpu or gpu etc...

Yeah i love the idea of those chairs, shame you've got to be earning quite a lot to comfortably afford those

    I'm liking the site

And i like the look of this one:

About the top of my realistic price bracket

Actually, i'm liking the idea of this mesh back:

Recently started a new contract where they have Aeron chairs.

I'd heard about them but wondered about their value for money. Having test driven one I will definitely be buying one for myself.

I don't shift or wriggle in my seat because my backside and back don't send any signals they they are uncomfortable.

I need a new chair too..i'm very picky usually but this cheapo Riga chair from Pcworld is really getting on my t***s now. That one from chairsupermarket looks promising.

Purloined a massive armchair of a thing from my old office, it was some director/CEO chappy's pride and joy till his heart packed in on him while he was having a cigar outside the building. Waste not want not I say.
