Someone is stealing my post

This is the story, i've recently moved into a new flat, there's 8 flats in the block and all of the post goes into a cupboard inside the communal front door.

I ordered a couple of DVDs from play.com and never received them, i went through Play's system and got some replacements, which did arrive. When they came however one of them had been clearly opened enough to see what the DVD was and then taped back down.

This leads me to think that someone is selectively stealing my post, which leads me on to my point, some sort of trap! Anyone got any ideas for how i could catch the culprit? I could quite easily plant a rigged DVD sized box in the mailbox and wait, i was thinking an alarm would be easy enough to contruct.

Plant a DVD box and put something repulsive in it? Like a selection of Clunk's jokes?

buy a wirelss video camera hide it out by the post and record it and if you catch someone stealing it take it to the police and if the accomodation is rented inform the landlord or letting agent

Would that be legal in itself though? Since you would be filming a communal area without consent.

You need seperate boxes with keys - complain to whoever runs / manages the flat.

Put an envelope with a blank DVD box in it and put a Post-It on the box saying something along the lines of, "I've got you bang to rights this time you thieving git, guess who's got you on tape nicking my mail"

You don't need to actually do the filming them in the act, the message alone should put the wind up them enough to get them to knock it off.

just talc, but stick a note saying that when some f****** in the building dies you'll all know who the thief was.

best thing to do is to contact the land lord as has already been suggested.

But in the mean time you could rig up a little circuit board with a piezo siren to go off when its opened

LOL i was going to suggest talc with an anthrax warning but i thought that may cause some serious trouble. hahaha

FIll the DVD box with white powder and add a sticky note which says 'Enjoy Anthrax'.

in all seriousness, report it to the post office and the police, opening someone elses mail is a serious offence
