Really? What excuse do they give? I'd have thought they all have more or less the same equipment. Maybe not
FWIW Although we're on a main road, we are quite hard to find, in that we're in a small block on a corner, street numbers aren't obvious & access is at the rear only, meaning turning off our road onto another just to gain access. The number of times I've had someone call telling me they're outside & we're not answering... They sometimes don't even believe me when I pop out myself & ask on the phone exactly where are they hiding? They usually turn out to be nearby but at the wrong block.
The bottom line is its hit and miss. You can either gamble with them - or make the effort not to use them. 3 places I am regular user of, scan included will make the effort to allow you to arrange your own collection, in which case you can chose the delivery option that works for you.
Call me dense but while I realised a few companies will allow one to pick up, it never occurred to me to arrange my own courier - I only ever thought that'd be handy if I lived nearby. D'oh. Ta for the mental slap.

I just factor in a 2 hour drive and £20 or so into the price if the company I am ordering from use citylink. If it still seems worth ordering with them, I go ahead. If not, or if the delivery is time-critical, I find someone else.

Im so luck to have probably the best city link bloke on earth.

He knows where my family members work (only across the road from my house), so if no one is in, he goes there to drop them off. Ive also asked him to leave anything at a neighbours who we trust if he cant drop it in at their work, which he does.

The city link depo isn't far from my house (15mins?), so I always get packages early in the morning.
    He's a legend.

Unlike the UPS lady who tried to chat me up after I was rudely awoken by her at 10am!
I wouldn't have cared if she was good looking. Plus, she was about 30.
    Crazy woman.

A shocking company with no quality control accross their franchises/depots - its really just not a good idea to use them for countless reasons, most of which have already been discussed.

The problem is that they offer really good rates when you sent a huge volume of packages with them..so lots of otherwise reputable retailers (for example, Scan) use them..sometimes exclusivly. Of course its us, our customers that suffer..which is why I am so glad I live a 20min drive away from scan so I can easily collect my orders

In theory, things should improve with them as they are buying back franchises and taking more control of the whole company by the sounds of things.

Re: Anyone else had problems with Citi-Link for delivery(and lies)?

I think the question is however, if Citylink are so bad, who else is there? I actually work in mail order and I've had experince with just about every company out there at one point or another.

They're all pretty much the same to be honest, your deliveries really do rely on how good the driver is in your area. If you have a lousy one, then you're in trouble...

a Very good point so that copanies offering multiple delivery options, or even advertising "arrange your own" as most seem to do it but don't advertise it would be a massive step.

Have to agree with the fact that their service varies. I see the best and worst of them.

City Link in central London always deliver to my work on time perfectly.

But my home local Branch in Beckenham im sure must be one of the worst. google "city-link Beckenham" and the tales of service received you just could not make up. Terrible.

If you want a laugh read the following forum thread http://www.coofercat.com/node/730 (A city-link driver actually posts to have a go back at the customers - priceless)

Re: Anyone else had problems with Citi-Link for delivery(and lies)?

I've just had a 24" monitor delivered to me at work by Citylink (Bristol depot), with a huge rip in the bottom edge of the box. Now, while the polystyrene appears to have protected it, what the heck did they do to it for it to happen in the first place? Seems to me like it has probably been dropped onto something or rammed into something so I hate to think what whether the monitor is working or not.

I emailed the supplier as soon as it turned up with a damaged box, I'm awaiting a response.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

Re: Anyone else had problems with Citi-Link for delivery(and lies)?

I live in a very rural part of the world and two firms in particular seem bad/unwilling to deliver - City Link and Parcelforce - I had a package en route from Aria last week and City Link didn't even bother to try to deliver it. I had to go to the Gloucester depot to retrieve it and the apathy and disinterest from the people up there was surprising for even a jaded old soul like me. edit Plus the automated phone system was a joke, totally unhelpful, at least the human beings can grunt back.

I always try to get things delivered to my work address, for some reason they always seem to arrive. I've also noticed that if I order things from abroad and get it shipped to either my work or a friend's city address I'm rarely charged Customs duty. If I get it sent to home 9 times out of 10 I get done for fees.

Re: Anyone else had problems with Citi-Link for delivery(and lies)?

I usually rate CityLink quite highly around here, I've just had one bad experience last week though.

I ordered a new guitar, a Jackson DXMG, and it arrived damaged, with a few chunks of wood missing, I'm 99% sure it was damaged in transit, because where some wood was missing, some of the polystyrene foam was jammed into the cracks.

The box it arrived in didn't look to healthy either, with 2 smallish holes in it, and generally looking beat up. The guitar has been returned and a new one should be arriving at work today

Yep. The monitor itself seems fine, apart from the platic on the mounting point on the stand which is slightly bent, although this could have been a manufacturing flaw. Since the screen itself is fine and you can't see the bent part, I'll probably let it go, although I might contact BenQ and see if they will swap the stand for me (although the actual metal clips which hold the monitor onto the stand are fine).

Nevertheless, I think I will no avoid any company which uses Citylink, as in the Bristol area they just don't seem to take care of the items in their possession. Sorry Scan et al, but I shan't be placing any more orders from you until you change couriers (yes, I know I can arrange my own courier, but that is major hassle!).

    Cheers,
    Stephen
