......and the hope that by purchasing Vista 64bit it would make it super looooong & fluffy. I now have a OS that doesnt seem to like many of my programs, mainly belkin's hard plasticy wireless bits & C&C tiberium war's bucket of goodness. Fact they're only a couple (of many) of the bits iv tried so far has me a bit spooked.
What other joys can i look forward to with vista & programs it doesnt work with?

Anyone else on a 64bit Vista who can offer advice on stuff that didnt work for them/what to avoid?

check compatability before selecting an OS and chage either OS/hardware/Software to be compatiable.

A bit too late now, but wait for an OS to mature a bit before taking the plunge.
I've mentioned this about a million times before but...remember how Windows XP was prior to SP1? Its only really gotten to good, in fact.
I had xp pro 64 bit via my dads office
Needless to say untill it becomes the norm for an OS I see no point in upgrading to one untill then, even on a 64 bit OS (drive & program issues currently)
EDIT: Is your e-peen so big it goes from a to z on a keyboard?

I remember xp - I wasn't going to upgrade to it from win 98 until I saw how easy it was to network with. Saved countless hours of beggering about before lan parties. We soon said that anyone who didn't have xp couldn't come due to the hassle. I think I've learnt from that and apply the philosophy of "let the others take the plunge and learn from them". Vista for me is not mature enough yet.
There are some major updates for vista coming soon to a pc near you so I hope it sorts out some of your problems. The only other things I can recommend are scouring the net to find you specific problems which are most likely driver related or buy vista compatible hardware

Ahhh yes, the fun.
I remember every time there was an issue with the internet connection, I would be told to "Reinstall TCP/IP" by Freeserve.

yeh, bit more research would have probably been usefull. Either way, new PC nice to have a new OS aswell.
Dont get me wrong aside from the compatibility problems vista looks stunning. Its easy to use but still a bit buggy, but so far *touch wood* no major problems aside from not getting belkin to work(using a ethernet cable instead) & tiberium wars not working.
Researching a duel boot system, will use XP to play games on it then, vista for web browsing, films... general computer use etc.
Only a matter of time to before they get it into gear, then it should be gd fun!

Ive used Vista on a number of machines with wireless cards and they really struggle to keep the connection or even find the right network...i don't like the new networking stuff in vista at all
It was a belkin 'stick', an external usb jobbie. Vista just wouldnt let me instal it, kept comming up with missing file WLAN_.. something. Same problem with Tiberium Wars, cant find file DX9_.. something. Tried installing both in different ways, (with/without DX9 for TW) etc but it didnt do much good for either.
*touch wood* vista seems to be working alright with an ethernet cable between router & PC(will be connected this way at uni), it drops it ever now & then but after a restart & a few misn it picks it up again.
