How much do you have to spend?

... I think you could get a fair few places for not much that time of year...

Re: Where is Hot in October in Europe

i'll be doing the same this year, i'm thinking Canaries meself, but maybe Crete.

ok ex - travel agent head on

Avoid school holidays like the plague if you want something cheaper, be at least 2 weeks either side, flying from luton and Gatwick is generally cheaper than others, although in the midlands East Midlands can be reasonable. (it does vary immensely tho, i've seen similar holidays from BHX (birmingham) and EMA (East Midlands) leaving on the same day, an hour apart with a £500 pp difference).
If leaving from the North of England, bear in mind that the Scottish Holidays start on the 12th Oct this year for a week, so prices will rise the further north you get (MAN and NCL being the dearest) but its still possible to get a decent deal.

Ok, Seasons and stuff - Its still Summer season in Oct, finishes at the end, Nov is the start of the Winter Season, This means that places like the Balearics, the Costa's, Bulgaria, Greece are all winding down (Benidorm and Majorca tend to be all year round), so are relatively cheap, but lots of stuff is closed (Ibiza has all its closigng parties the last 2 weeks in Sep). Its still low 20's in temp in these places but it may rain a fair amount.

Lastly, Always remember that if you are going Self Catering, then you are looking at supplements for not filling an apartment for 4 or 3, studios can be far better value if all you are looking for is a base to rest your head at night, otherwise go for Half Board or B+B, unless you are there to drink yerself silly, then go AI in Turkey or something If its for 5 days, a city break may be the thing, but these tend to be more expensive.

I'd reckon a budget of £250 p/p unless you wait till very last minute and take whats going.

(If you don't mind leaving and returning from different airports (yes, i know it sounds crazy) then Airtours and Thomas Cook often have ridiculously low prices for that, i once sent a family of 4 to Majorca from BHX returning to LTN for under £500 a week before the summer hols, last minute of course)

thanks mate. Im not looking for anything chavy, its more a romantic getaway kinda thing then a lets go clubbing. Im near london so any airports local will be good. Just Bed will be fine, prob get breaky out. 3/4 star hotel would be ideal or jsut a averagely nice appartment. Never travelled europe this way. I usually go city breaks in rome barcelona scandanavia.

Re: Where is Hot in October in Europe

hmm, maybe Cyprus then, might get a good deal on a Paphos hotel or something, Its kinda end of season there too, so might get a deal on a decent 4* - Check out Thomsons platinum or Gold ones. Theres plenty to do and see around there, amazing mix of cuisine and theres the whole turtle watching thing and plenty of archaelogical things if thats what you like.

The beaches I am told are lovely, should be relatively quiet compared to high season and theres plenty of scenic walking routes and little cafe/bars to be romantic in, and there should be enough nightlife to get rowdy in if you feel the urge

edit : just checked some prices for Paphos for mid october, still relatively steep atm, £450+ pp

I'm heading of to Rhodes in Mid October for a week. £129 per person for a 4* apartment. It has supposed to be mid 20's as well.

Re: Where is Hot in October in Europe

Crete is pretty quiet then and warm. Was there around that time a couple of years ago staying in a small resort called, errr... Makrialos (I think). It's on the east coast, east-south-east to be more exact. Defiitely quiet if that's what you're looking for. There are some nice walks and some secluded bays around the area to. It was a little way from the main sights of the island, but up to the middle of the island is do-able by car in a day easily. It was a last minute deal with Cosamar.

The town isn't too touristy, and not too busy either, especially at that time of year. It has a nice little harbour with some local restaurants, and a few bars.

It was pretty quiet at that time of year, and not everything was open every night as they're starting to wind down, so just be aware of that.

Nice is generally pretty good, i go with to visit my uncle every half term and the weather is generally sunny. Enough that i got a tan there a couple of years ago. Flights and accom. are pretty good usually and there are loads of little beaches, etc!

Re: Where is Hot in October in Europe

Nice is nice at that time of year. You need a car to really have fun though, still apartments are generally empty and go for a very good rate. I'm going to that area myself around then.

You could also consider Beirut. Despite the Israelis best efforts some innocent civilians are still alive and some buildings still standing. The weather is fabulous in Oct, the country spectacular, the food excellent and the people wonderful. You mentioned romantic, so I guess that the superabundance of coffee-coloured hotties won't play well, but the local wines are both cheap and good.

    Edit

I wrote that and then whiternoise got in while I was working.

I went to Rhodes a few years back in October, pretty much about the same date you said and it was still very hot, high 20's and it was lovely. Was also very cheap, about £400 for two people in a hotel with breakfast for a week. I would take a look if I were you.

Re: Where is Hot in October in Europe

If you don't want nightclubs and British chavarama then can I suggest the island of La Palma in the Canaries. It's cheap, friendly, beautiful and more importantly hasn't been spoilt by the British. The only people that go there are the Spanish and German hillwalkers.

At present there are no direct flights there, you have to go to Madrid and catch a connecting flight but direct flights are starting in October I believe.

To give you an idea of the cost the missus and I spent 8 nights there in a basic but nice (3 star) hotel apartment complex with a pool, including breakfast for £300 each including flights and taxes at the end of May.
