    TomTom?

Does anyone here use the TomTom software?

Have you used the TomTom Buddies feature? Does it work well? ...Or dont you know what it is?

    Re: TomTom?

I use TomTom 6 and find it good. Like everything all depends on the data, a few of the roads round me are not quite right but it gets me from A-B with no problem. Never used the TomTom Buddies feature so can't comment on that.

    Re: TomTom?

    I have Tom Tom.
It's made by Americans, it has to be.

    Post Code entry -
In England, the post code is specific to the street. You can send a letter using just the number and postcode (try it).

In the US, the ZIP CODE, works like the start of our post codes, B = Birmingham, DY = Dudley, WV = wolvo, and just tells you the area.

Tom tom, lets you put in HALF the post code, then the street name, then the number.

    It drives me potty.

    Other than that, it's fine.

    Re: TomTom?

Never heard of the TomTom buddies feature, but then I havent updated mine in a while. Only annoying thing is that I like to use it when I go visit Ireland, but there are so many new roads popping up all over the place the maps getting out of date pretty quickly, so it often shows me driving through the middle of fields and telling me to turn off every few secs

Can't see any option of free map data upgrades either.. as far as I can tell I have to buy the map data again if I want the new roads added.

edit: i'm referring to the tomtom device software, rather than the PC/PDA software

Of course the UK postcodes patch is a useful addition and allows you to use full 7 digit UK postcodes.

    Re: TomTom?

try www.tomtom.com bazz, cos it sounds like you have TomTom 3 or something, version 6 is what us satnav geeks use now.

As for TomTom Buddies, i just has a word with a colleague on it, basically its a system that requires you to subscribe to it, as well as anyone on your buddy list. It then uses GPRS (either using Bluetooth to your phone, or directly if you using tomtom on a smartphone) to tell you where each of your buddies is.

in other words, its crap. It does no route tracing, no real time tracking, it may do texting but you are gonna have a phone for that anyway. All it really does is pulse a friends coordinates from time to time. The data used through GPRS won't cost you much at all, its minimal, but no idea what the actual subscription cost is.
Who exactly wants everyone on your buddy list to know exactly where you are anyways? people wil start asking you what you were doing at their GF's house at 2 in the morning if you have something like that!

    Re: TomTom?

TomTom 6 uses the full postcode by default. Dan't remember where the patch is, I know I had it on TomTom 5.

    Re: TomTom?

Well my uncle owns a taxi company, all his drivers use tomtom! and he was asking me if there is any way to track where each of his drivers are! Thats the only main reason i was asking!

What is the latest version of tomtom at the moment? Is it 6? or is 7 out?

I recently had a pda phone it has gps built-in so i am going get tomtom for it!

    Re: TomTom?

I think that 6 is the latest. As to what your uncle is after I think that they do some addon software that will achieve what he is after.
