All,
Well I've been in America for the past week on work business and yesterday I attempted to fly home to Birmingham.
My flights should have been:
Charlotte (2.50PM) -> Newark (5.04PM)
Newark(7.00PM) -> Birmingham (7.05AM)
As we all know things usually don't run smoothly and here's the situation so far....
- 12:00PM - Arrive at Charlotte airport
- 2.15PM - Board flight to Newark airport
- 2.50PM - De-board the flight without taking off due to weather conditions at Newark
- 5.00PM - Re-board the flight to Newark
- 5.45PM - Told we cannot take off due to 'Micro Bursts' over Newark
- 7.30PM - Take off
- 8.30PM - Told we are in a holding pattern around Newark as there's a queue to land
- 9.00PM - Reserve fuel depleted, diverted to Pennsylvania to refuel
- 10.00PM - Refuel
- 10.30PM - Take off
- 11.15PM - Arrive at Newark
- 11.20PM - Told by Steward that airline staff will be waiting to discuss connections
- 11.30PM - Enter Newark terminal and find queue for information. Queue stretches literally about a 1/4 of a mile
- 11.35PM - Join queue
- 1:00AM - Mini riot breaks out when airline managers arrive and explain information section will close at 1.30AM until 3.00AM
- 1:30AM information closes, police arrive, more arguing
- 3.00AM - Information not opening
- 4:00AM - Information still not opening
- 5.00AM - Airline managers arrive and explain the information will open at 5:30AM. Another mini riot.
- 9.00AM - Reach front of queue
- 9.05AM - Am on 'Standby' for a flight leaving for Birmingham at 7.00PM this evening
I think the worst part is that at no time were the airline taking care of people, i.e. handing out hot drinks, blankets and explaining the situation. People (including myself) literally slept on a freezing cold terminal floor.
Who said flying isn't fun!I'll update when I have more info...
Oh well at least I have wireless access and a chocolate milkshake,
Leon

It was an appalling way to treat customers though, we were just left. Shocking customer service.
