    Hallmark E-Card VIRUS WARNING!

Got an email today saying I've got an e-card from hallmark. Without thinking, I clicked on it. Suddenly got a warning from my AV that a trojan was downloading and stopped it. Parents got one as well.

I consider myself fairly technically proficient and experienced but it shows that we can all be caught out by the most simple thing.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

I got one from my cousin, a security administrator with Lucent Technologies.

What do they teach them these days?

For the last month I've been getting those flippin' things at a rate of about a dozen a day.

    Re: Hallmark E-Card VIRUS WARNING!

here's some helpful advice at avoiding the e-card virus spam at the moment:

    1) IP addresses are a bad sign. do not click URLs with IP addresses in them

    2) you don't have any worshipers. they haven't sent you an e-card

    3) e-cards suck balls anyway, so there's no need to ever click on them anyway

    Re: Hallmark E-Card VIRUS WARNING!

Point 3 has always been my saving grace...

Someone I know has sent me an Ecard? What on earth for, they're utter crap!

Resist urge to click the link to find out who sent me an ecard so I can mock them forever....

In 2000 I worked for a large aerospace company whose Head of IT opened the Lovebug email promptly sending it to every employee in the company. This caused havoc and he issued a warning that it would become a sackable offense if anyone opened the lovebug email. My niece is more IT security savvy and she's only 10 weeks old.
