PC based GPS system

Anyone used PC based GPS software? Any recomendations?

I'm thinking about using my new tablet notebook as a 12.1" GPS device Not really sure how i would mount it in my car, but i'm sure i could work something out.

Do any of the PC based ones give you a 3D view like TomTom? Given the screen size, it would be cool to have both the 3D view and a large scale flat map view showin your current position.

What are my options?

EDIT: I'll probably get a Bluetooth reciever, as my tablet has BT built in and then it can be used with other devices too in the future.

I was thinking about doing this too, just still stuck on the software side of things. mp3car.com forums have quite a lot a info. Kinda couldn't really be bothered with it atm tho, so haven't got any decent info out of it.

thanks for the link. None of them seem very good though.

There are some very good looking sat nav devices out there, but no-one does a decent PC application.

Might need to keep looking into this for the future.

Autoroute does voice guidance, route instructions, etc. Not sure what the map looks like.

I'm not sure what advantage a PC based system would offer over TomTom. It's not as though you can stick it to the windscreen.

tiny is good

tiny means it can go into the corner of your peripheral vision without taking focus away from the road

If the new Archos 605 had GPS then that would be brilliant, but it doesn't.

I have a JVC multimedia double DIN head unit with a 7" screen, but there is no GPS add on. The comparible Kenwood unit does have it, but there is no DAB support so thats a no-no.

Sure, if you could get decent GPS software for the P990.

TomTom don't do software for SE phones. The only navigation software i've seen for it requires a subscription and it recieves the route and map data from a central server whenever you use it, so my O2 data bill would be rediculous. Nothing i have seen for it stores maps on memory cards.

I may end up getting a WindowsMobile PDA/phone when i replace the P990. That way i can have TomTom wherever i go i guess.
