    A Sad State of Affairs...

I know it's been talked about before... but Ebay is in such a poor state of affairs... I wonder whether it's broken....

I have bought 10 things in the last 2 weeks, I am the buyer and have paid instantly so you'd think I'd have 10 positive feedbacks from this...

    Guess how many...?

    4 !! 4 positive feedbacks!!

No doubt I have to wait until I've given the sellers positive feedback before they'll bother giving me any!

Another thing - is it just me or do people take longer than ever to post things, or is it Royal Mail being crap?
A friend sells on there and 50% of his buyers don't seem to bother paying till a week later as well...

Ebays always been like that for payment, but in terms of delivery the postal service is terrible lately but many independant sellers delay posting for a few days for some reason.
Genrally if you buy from an ebay shop it'll be delivered quiker but you won't get as good a deal.

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

I've been told that Royal Mail hasn't been the fastest recently.

Regarding the feedback thing, I agree it's pretty lousy but it has always been like that in my experience.

Shame though, now that Ebay has acquired Paypal, I reckon that they should be able to automatically give the buyer some kind of flag (or automatic feedback) indicating that they have paid the amount in full. As it is, it gives the seller the option to retaliate if the buyer complains.

Yeah, same thing as TooNice mentioned.

Also, i have bought many items and sometime even been brave and bought something that i knew was from hongkong. I paid right away and only half-heartedly expected the items to even show up. After a few weeks the items showed but i still had no feedback even though i paid right away, so i left the seller positive feedback and waited for him to return the compliment...but...he didn't. =(

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

The trouble I found when I ventured into Ebay land is the rise of the "professional seller". Damned idiots who have three dozen usernames all selling the same thing, who complain bitterly if you don't leave an absolutely glowing positive feedback and who refuse to leave feedback until you've left yours.

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

I have found that no sellers give me feedback anymore until I give them it anymore, it's ridiculous, I've paid up promptly, that's all you need to know, I deserve decent feedback, you deserve poor feedback if your product or service was not up to expectations

As for the delivery times I'll agree with that too, way before the postal strike madness started I've been waiting 2-3, sometimes 4 days for something claiming to be sent out "same day" with first class postage. People are just getting lazy

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

Nowadays if you do leave negative feedback you can pretty much garantee that these "professional" sellers will leave you negative as retaliation and use it as blackmail to get you to remove your negative feedback!

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

Half of the problem is people so readily giving good feedback - people have started to expect it, and therefore throw their toys out the pram when they don't get it...

I'm not that bothered about feedback, it does however seem that if you trade with the same person more than once only 1 set of feedback counts.

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

I give feedback as soon as the money clears when they pay me.....and I do the same on the item when it arrives, irrespective of whether they have for me.

I always leave bad feedback if the deal goes sour, but only after I try to srt it with them.

Never be too precious of your own feedback rating. If someone needs slapping, slap them. I for one ALWAYS read lots of feedback and dont take negative too badly of a seller if I trace the route of his/her problem as lets face it...the public are often a binch of nameless dolts who leave negative when they messed up themselves.

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

i'll clarify. One company I used maoved premises, and changed their addresson the system but Ebay's system failed to change properly, so lots of people posted cheques, and never received items.

However...none of these cheques ever got banked....and when I read the negatives of the compnay and then read some of their problems ...it was never their fault.

So I cancelled my cheque, contacted them for a new address, got the item and left them positive.

Too many people get heavy over this....ebay is cheap and it's good. But when it breaks it IS dire.

Re: A Sad State of Affairs...

I have never had to leave poor feedback for anyone on eBay or Amazon. Similarly my own rating is 100%. I did once sell my wife's Genuine Hermes Kelly handbag on eBay to an American. I had it sent to him using the European Investment Bank's courier and it arrived the day after he sent the money. You'd have thought I deserved a bit of a stroke for that, but no. Miserable bastard. Still, he was an undertaker.
