    CPU's - Who's got the oldest?

Just wondering what people are running in their MAIN rigs these days...

I'm still on my trusty AMD 2600+ (2.08GB of folding powah) Tbred - Bought I believe in late 2002 or early 2003, just before the Bartons came out.

Any other golden oldies out there?

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ running @ 2.6 Ghz but severely tempted by the new Q6600 G0 due to their sheer powa and clockability.

Just the lack of fundage is getting in my way

mum and dad's desktop is an xp1700+ with 256mb ram, although they're now using a laptop, so I think it might mutate into something pokier for me to mess with

Although my sister was still using a PII - 266 up until 3 years ago..

My Mum and Stepdad's desktop is a paltry PIII 550 Mhz heap that I got when I first went to uni in 1999.

In fact I so ashamed of that last statement I may have to buy them a new computer right now
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

    Re: CPU's - Who's got the oldest?

The missus' PC, which still gets use and indeed, she prefers to mine, has an Athlon 1300. Thunderbirds are go ! etc...

I've also got an Athlon 1400 on my computer desk. Sadly it's not in a machine, but instead a block of resin. It was in working order, but as it was from my first self built PC, I decided to retire it honourably. So I thought I'd make it into some sort of momento, and it does make a luuvly paperweight

    Really must get out more...

    Re: CPU's - Who's got the oldest?

Use a 4300 in primary machine but just threw together a 3700+ about a month ago to be able to use up all me old bitties -ram ide h/d etc . Find that I use this machine more than I use the c2d atm. Got a x2 4600 lying in the drawer -can't make up my mind if I am going to build around it or sell and build another c2d based on a 4400. The problem in this life .!!!

    Re: CPU's - Who's got the oldest?

I have an XP2000 Tbred B. I originally had it up at 2.3GHz but since all the caps on my motherboard started to pop I've had to downclock it and undervolt it- first to 1.833, then 1.466, now 1.1GHz at 1.4V. I really ought to replace the board, since I have a 100% perfect spare which has barely been used, but it's just about stable right now and I'm too lazy. I'll look into it during my holidays in a couple of weeks. What's actually putting me off is not the hour or so to swap the board but the windows reinstall that's about 3 years overdue. I might just buy another hard disk, do a fresh install, and then copy all my emails, bookmarks etc. over from the old one....I need more storage anyhow. But there's no SATA on either of these boards, and I kind of object to buying 400GB of old tech IDE storage that might not be any use to me when I finally can afford an upgrade to A64 X2 or C2D. What to do.....

Edit: I have a perfectly functional dual Athlon made from another XP2000 and a cachemodded Appalbred Duron 1400, which runs fine at 2x1.67GHz. It only has 256MB of memory and a 2MB Matrox Millenium PCI graphics card though, which was fine when its only job was crunching find a drug and DVDShrink-ing films. As a main rig though it'd be a bit of a limitation. Ebay for some more Registered RAM then maybe- I found an AGP GF2MX in a skip, which might well solve the lack-of-resolutions-over-1024x768 problem.

Anyway surely I have the crappest rig(s) so far? Parents/housemates/etc. computers surely don't count.

Just bid a few quid for a gig of registered DDR2100 on ebay. If I win this rig might finally get relegated....

A friend of mine still has an early P4 with Rambus as his only pc. Not sure whether its a 423, 478 or what frequency - just that he doubled his 256mb of ram a year ago and it cost him about £80.

I know how you feel mate, we had to upgrade my sisters PC because the old Socket A tech was rather hard to find decent priced bits for it on ebay so we went AM2 for her, lucky the board we used had 2 x ide ports so all is well there I really didn't fancying giving away my spare 160 gig SATA 2 HDD.

She was using a Duron 800 up until yesterday.

I'm in the process of re-building my old X2 3800 back up into a working PC again, going to use it as a spare PC, was going to sell it but a spare is always handy

I think Rave is winning... but only just as the 2000+ I guess would have come before the 2600+!
