    Growing trend in pubs?

I don’t know if this is nationwide or just in my area but i was out and about on Sunday and being a complete baby face when it comes to buying a pint I end up having to take my passport with me (even though im 25!). Anyway i got to the bar got served etc with no problem but as i was walking out i noticed a sign on the bar "we do not accept driving licenses as proof of ID". Lately ive seen a few off licenses with signs up saying this but not pubs and i can’t really understand why. Any ideas?

    Permanently confused

Another way to be inconvienient probably. No trouble here in ireland though. They practically throw the drink away.

How strange, so I could use my driving license as ID to board a flight within the UK and Ireland but I couldn't use it to prove I'm over 18?

Duno, batch of fakes going around?
Thats pretty stupid either way. Passports are a silly sized item to keep with you just to have a drink.

If they want to check a licence, all they have to do is drop it under a UV light. Never seen / heard of a fake that has that (although it wouldn't surprise me)

    Re: Growing trend in pubs?

Not something I've noticed around here (Birmingham) to be fair, always use my drivers license if theres a problem, never need ID though if I'm sticking to my regular haunts.

Yeah it's crazy. Other than your passport and birth certificate (both really inconvenient and risky to carry around) what other forms of ID are there that people will actually accept?

A few years back my local library wouldn't let me use my passport as proof of ID.
    I kid you not.
They wouldn't give a reason (presumably they thought I was dodgy), but I blew a fuse with the person who was in charge.

Have people noticed how mental the ID checking has got now?
    I got ID'ed less when I was under-age!

I pulled up on my bike outside a shop the other day (keep in mind this is a 500cc Kawasaki and not a scooter) to buy a few beers. Paying with a credit card, and they still asked for ID.

I bet they'd accept a piece of paper with your name scrawled on it though

I still get ID'd in TESCOS when I'm paying with a credit card... last time I checked you couldn't get one if you were under 18... (don't laugh Ade, I know you were with me when this happened... )

They accepted a HSBC statement at the end. Presumably because it had no photo and couldn't have been nicked
I won't repeat what was said the first time I went in. It wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't trying to hire "The best of the 80's" CD. I mean honestly, I'd be more embarrassed if I got caught nicking the pens of the welcome desk than that.

I was hoping she wouldn't ask after I clearly said "Can I have some money mom" in front of her to you.

Its funny, i don't get id'd when i'm looking scruffy. When i've not shaved for a few days and got bum fluff. But when i'm wearing my suite, clean shaved smart looking, i get id'd... honest to god, in the same pub, when buying a round for 5 other suited people, with a bloody credit card...

If someone rejected my drivers license and insisted on a passport, i'd probably vote with my wallet, and go elsewhere.
