Yup, I've just spent a week in Bournemouth visiting my brother and everyone seems a lot more chilled out and friendly than west London. It's just a general feeling that I get and nothing I can really put my finger on, maybe it's just because it's different and I've never seen any trouble down there. I also went to Uni in Hull and have family who live there as well, so know that as a whole Northerners are generally friendlier and more welcoming (providing you don't treat them like second class citizens for being northern)

Nowt wrong with us Northeners or the way we speak . I've found a lot of Southeners that think they are superior ..wrong ..no sense of humour and talking about how we speak i mean whats all this apples n' pears business? Just as you wouldnt move up here , I wouldnt move down there , not even if you paid me !!!

I suppose you picked the wrong weekend to get to Manchester.

With the gay pride event going on all weekend the deadlegs generally descent on the town centre as they see the non-locals coming to see the weekends events as easy pickings. In my entire time of visiting Manchester and this is going back to when the Hacienda was open I've really only been in 1 incident and that resulted in the attacker coming worse off than me.

MANCHESTER IS NOT IN THE NORTH DAMMIT!

Best English (accent as well as language) I've heard is from a Norwegian and a German we chat with on Ventrilo. And that chat involves someone from pretty much everywhere in the UK other than London.

Worst English probably comes from me. Us Geordies just make up words to replace others we don't like it seems.

When I lived in York I took my wife-to-be as she was to visit. She was from Plymouth and the accents were a bit odd for her at first, but we were waiting for a bus and chatting about the fact that York is pretty unspoiled and a little old lady in the bus queue ahead of us started telling us about the day the Germans bombed the railway station. The conversation morphed when someone else mentioned that Aldous Huxley had written about the bombing (in WWI I think) and within minutes we were all discussing The Doors of Perception and Huxley's drug experiences. Within minutes there were 5 of us in a bus shelter, not knowing each other and chatting about LSD and Brave New World and government 'programming' of it's citizens.

My wife has never forgotten that. Yorkshire people: part Viking, part Roman, all Yorkshire.

Not too worried about manchester personally, but as for liverpool

Clubbing in Liverpool = "Eeeeeeeeeeeee mate, if your girl looks at me again, i'll bit her f cking ears off"

Moral of the story is dont glance at anyone in Liverpool... ever

If it's a rock club with deathmetal galore then expect angry rockers.

If it's a dance club with cheesy, monotonous house music then expect pilled-up chavs.

    See, I can stereotype too.

Having lived (almost) in Manchester and being a born and bred southerner, I can say that the people up noorf are so much friendlier than those down here. Everything seems a bit more laid back

Once I've earned my millions I'm moving back up there.

Re: So i went through manchester, and all i lost was my usb stick player.

Im not a big fan of Manchester. I have had a few nights out there and never felt safe. Suppose part of the problem was that the first night out I had there one of the people who we where out with said to be careful in the pub we were going into because nearly every time they`d been there someone got their wallet nicked.

Being From Liverpool i`m pretty biased but I can say hand on heart I`ve never had any trouble in liverpool on a night out or any time.

The times I`ve been down south I have noted a complete lack of humour from a lot of the locals.

The times I`ve been to London i`ve always felt its a bit of a faceless city with no real Personality I guess its part of being a huge city but even manchester which is quite big has an identity of its own(smelly and full of chavs )
