Who went to Reading Festival then?

Anyone else go? How was your festival? Who were your favourite acts?

Personally I had a great weekend even thought there wasn't a great deal of bands I wanted to see.

I'm not a massive fan but I thought Nine Inch Nails were awesome and my favourite act of the weekend. I really like the pumpkins but I thought they were a bit of a let down after NIN, to be honest. Kings of Leon, Bloc Party and Unkle were also enjoyed.

Only downer to the weekend was some pikey **** stole my smoke out of the porch of my tent while me and the missus were asleep!

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

Yep, I went. NIN were excellent, I wasn't expecting a great deal from them but they were probably the best there. Kings Of Leon I'd have to agree with also and Razorlight were the best of Friday too.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers were a bit of a let-down though, we left to see UNKLE mid-way through. The RHCPs weren't terrible, just nowhere near as good as I was expecting.

Smashing Pumpkins had a hard time following NIN, but it was a good show and the nearly-full moon added to the atmosphere of the whole thing.

How about the last night then? All those drums all over the place and exploding bonfires! It's like stepping back to medieval times!

    Things stuck in my mind:
    • "Pick Steve Up! Pick Steve Up!" shouted as a group of people ran past apparently carrying a taped-up Steve.
    • "Tunnel, Tunnel, Tunnel-Tunnel-Tunnel" as a human-tunnel with people racing down it stretched a few hundred yards down the road.
    • The Rave Mound/Pirate Ship at the bottom of Brown field, featuring many a song, a dancing reindeer (that looked more like Scooby Doo) and a pair of dancing bananas.
    • Oh and from the main arena, the Carling Pint Cup gathering... turned from a tidy profit maker to absoloute chaos, culminating in the Cup-On-String game where cheers could be heard 1/2 way across the field every time some poor sucker tried to grab it for his stash.

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

Haha. A friend of mine bought two tabs off some guy who came wandering through the tents. Mate was in staff camping so I never saw him after that

I think I saw the pirate mound. Was it by a load of toilets? For some reason I saw about 30 people just run along and get on top of it.

Went to a rave under 3 gazebos for a bit somewhere and then to the bigger rave of about 200 people outside the tea/coffee/juice shop (by the silent disco ) which was pumping out D&B at gone 4am.

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

Best band for me were billy talent, rhcp were awesome for me as I was a wee but tipsy with 30 other people down by the bcc camera tower.

The best part was seeing my mate pass out from having 5 cans of Stella while I had 3 litres of vodka to get rid of.

Sounds like my kind of night then

I don't do the big festivals for rock or Indie but I'm partial to a visit to a few of the dance/D&B weekends

Next year I'm planning to do global gathering, glade, creamfields and possibly a D&B weekender in Spain.

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

I ended up going to leeds which was awesome tbh,

Pretty much the same it seems - NiN, Razorlight, Billy Talent, LP, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Interpol - RHCP wasnt bad - just didnt seem to get the crowd going, but tbh - best gig for me was the secret Kaiser gig in the Carling tent! o/

Klaxons were a huge dissapointment, as expected - and i missed Smashin Pumpkins for them!

Quite enjoyed Pull Tiger Tail and The Sunshine Underground also in the NME tent, well worth a look should you find them near you!

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

I went to leeds as well.

Highlights were css/lcd soundsystem/klaxons, maximo park, arcade fire, kings of leon and razorlight. Wasnt impressed at all with RHCP. Bit of a let down really.

Where were you camping recoil? We were in blue valley just next to the info point/rave tent.

I missed pull tiger tail, but saw them earlier this year supporting razorlight and they were amazing. Saw bits of sunshine underground from outside the tent, as we were at the trident arena at the time.

Cant believe you saw kaisers. We found out during the set that it was on, but security werent letting anyone in

Yeah, there was a burger-van behind, then a hedge and toilets behind that.

We were up around the silent disco and D&B vans watching another load of drummers around then too I think. Did you see that big area where the fence was down? Apparently several hundred people hammered it down the night before!

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

meh for some reason my mates wanted to camp in brown fields, (yes i know it was a HUGE walk to the arena!) but it was useful when leaving on the monday morning!

Kaisers were ace, was stood at the front as I was tipped off about 2/3 hours before the gig! Got really messy up front and soooo many people ended up crowd surfing! did the blue fields get destroyed on the sun night/mon morning? I also keep hearing from peeps that some died from an OD in the bubble fields o_O

Re: Who went to Reading Festival then?

Yeah I think that must've been the place! I didn't see the fence down though. Some people getting carried away. It becomes such a massive playground for older naughty kids at night

A few of my mates went to global this year. I think I'll go next year. The police dogs and searches are not good news though A friend was sniffed out by a dog. Ended up with a caution after handing over what he had and the police officer told him to buy the stuff in there next time and didn't even search him! Can you believe that?
