    Re: looking for an SMS program

    I haven't see any.

    We use an online service at work for sending texts to our guys out in the field. We don't get a mobile signal in the office or we would just use a regular mobile.

    I can't remember the same of he sie wqe use, but the costs are really small.

    The reason these servicec charge is because it costs them to relay messages onto other networks too. I think there were free services in the past, but unsurprisingly, they went bust and disappeared in the last .com bust.

    Re: looking for an SMS program

    Not really software.. and only works in the UK.. but www.cbfsms.com is good.

    I don't know if they still do but O2 allow you to send free text messages from there website, wether your an O2 customer or not.

    Orange let me send 30 free messages a month off there website too - but only because I have an account with them.

    Yet again, those last two are UK only I believe.... your best bet is just sending text's via Skype.. which will be a bit cheaper than using your mobile phone.

    Another is http://www.call18185.co.uk/ - 1p/text worldwide, and provided you follow the instructions, you can have your own number showing up as the callerID. Has to be done through website, though its only HTTP post requests once you've logged in and collected your session cookie and if you have the time to knock up something for yourself.

    Re: looking for an SMS program

    Try googling for free sms. I used to use a free one but it was heavily laden with ads to the called party and difficult to get a text sent when you wanted - had to try repeat attempts so was not worth is overall .

    THis sounds too good to be true. Can anyone verify that there are no hidden extras or whatever?

    Re: looking for an SMS program

    Orange = 30 free texts a month
    O2 = a few a day IIRC

    You just have to sign up, you can sign up to O2 with any network phone, not sure about Orange

    Re: looking for an SMS program

    Just to bring this back up then, as I'm thinking of doing it with my mobile, how does it work money wise? I have to give them my credit card details and it's basically a direct debit with them taking off my account as much as I spend? Or will I get an e-invoice saying I need to pay so and so? Is that safe? Basically all I want it for is texting my girlfriend (who's from Germany) via that website for 1p, I don't think I'll be using the actual calls.

    So basically how does payment work?

    Cheers.

    Any i've seen it's just like PAYG. You buy credit from them with credit or debit cards and away you go.
