Re: Clarkson gets away with it?

to be fair it got kicked out because they had no idea who was driving it!

But speading on motorways is my bug bear.

I don't mind people speading on dual carriage/motor ways.... but damnit, not in residentail or built up areas. I think that people who do 34/35mph should be treated far harder than someone doing 95 on the M1... reason, ask the person what speed they where doing on the m1, if they don't lie, odds are they will know. Ask the person doign 34, their thumb will be so far up their rectum, their concentration miles away. Far more dangerous imo!

Re: Clarkson gets away with it?

I think that, in an ideal world, speed limits would be advisory. Sometimes 120 is appropriate, sometimes 10 is. The signs and cameras are there because there's no sensible way of having a sign that says "20mph on weekday up until 6:00 pm, unless it's raining, in which case 10mph or 50mph after 6:00 pm until official sundown when it reverts to 50mph. All limits are increased by 20% for really good drivers in well-maintained sports cars or others with excellent brakes and handling as seen on the following list..." etc.

So, yes, sometimes I think it's OK to break the limit. Probably Jeremy was making a judgement call based upon road conditions, his own experience and the quality of the car.

In a car your new to driving, that is the worst time to be reclass on a public road.

Re: Clarkson gets away with it?

Are there any more details of the case?
From the text in the news story Alfa sent a ticket to Clarkson personnally when anyone in the Top Gear team could have been driving. No wonder it got thrown out!

Re: Clarkson gets away with it?

This is why I sometimes wonder what's the point of the legal system. It costs a fortune for these trials and yet people can easily lie their way through them and get it squished on a technicality.

    Seems ludicrous really...

Why can't they make him tell them who was driving it or do him for obstructing justice?

Not that I want to see him put away, it just seems silly!

I guess we can use the same excuse when driving hired cars?
