    Recycling Bottle Tops

We have been collecting milk and other plastic bottle tops for a charity which sell them to a recycling company. They have recently sent us a letter sayin that they no longer are collecting them. This has left us with two huge bin bags full of plastic tops and it seems a real shame to stick them in landfill.

Does anyone know of a way to recycle plastic of this kind? They all have either a No. 2 or a 4 triangle.

Can they not go into the same recycling bins that the plastic milk bottles go into? I know they're rare, but there must be some about.

    Re: Recycling Bottle Tops

I had a google for it yesterday and there seems to be only one charity/company in east sussex taking them which is not usuable by the vast majority and a recycling company in Portsmouth who will take them but again you have to send them. Their website page for bottle tops was being worked on.

    Re: Recycling Bottle Tops

Local councils are a pain in the backside when it comes to plastic recycling. It varies from county to county as to what recycling facilities they have, for instance York will only take plastic bottles but can't recycle lids, containers, tubs or any other items. Irritates the life out of me that I can recycle the plastic bottle but not the plastic lid.

The reasoning is that for the most part bottles are 'pure', whereas the lids and tubs etc are a 'blend' which a lot of councils don't have the facilities for.
