City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

I made two seperate orders with two different companies, both using City Link as the carrier. Both scheduled to arrive friday. Friday comes and goes, they don't turn up. City Link says 'Order not delivered - no reason given'. The CS lady apologises and arranges for saturday delivery. Saturday has now come and gone, still no delivery. That's beyond a mistake, that's incompetence. That's two days I've waited in all day for them, now I'll have to have the order rerouted to work amd probably still face another non delivery.

    Anyone else had similar issues?

Ashford branch. They suggested that I come pick it up yesterday! What are they paid for?

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

Many problems, they are a complete joke.

The latest news is that they now have a stupidly high minimum order level if you are a trade customer with them - and if you don' have a large enough constant order volume you get charged £50 a week just for having an account with them!

They will lose alot of smaller customers from this move, and its best to just steer clear of stores that use them - or always pick up from that particular store..this is a good way to get around the problem and still lets you use Scan, who insist on using City Link for some insane reason

Probably because they have one of the highest rates of delivery out of the carrier companies in the UK atm and offer insurance at a good price (important when you're reguarly sending out packages costing up to a few thousand pounds each)

I really hate these carrier whines because they're irrational, just because YOUR parcels have gone bad doesn't mean the entire company sucks, you were just unlucky. Unless you're sitting there with an entire stack of data that shows a very high rate of failure, you simply cannot draw that conclusion.

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

Yes, it's usually just down to the efficiency of your local branch. I never wait in or take days of work waiting for 'bit's . The 'carrier' will either leave a card or if they don't, then the local office is just a phone call away. If I am not in when 'city link' try and deliver then it is just a matter of collecting the item's myself. ( about 20 mile round trip in my case.) .

If you can, then arrange for a neighbour to sign for the package. A note on the door saying go to number 6 etc will usually work.

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

Everything Ive ever ordered from Citylink has come next day. I had a motherboard arrive on friday to replace my broken one. I installed it in the morning and called scan to arrange collection of the faulty one, they were at my house in 45minutes! Not a bad word against them from me.

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

Because it's a franchise, it's too much luck of the draw. The Glasgow branch were always pretty good when I lived there, but here in Bristol they are a nightmare. They've never missed a delivery with me, but I've had packages that have been damaged in transit on more than a few occasions and I know other people who have also had problems in the Bristol area.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

Having had them deliver (or not) at three different locations around the country where I have lived, with many different deliveries, my experience with them is about a 50% chance of getting delivery from them. Apart from that you have to drive to the nearest depot and pick it up.
So I just factor in £20 and the bother of an hours drive into the purchase of anything delivered by city-link.

This compares with success rates of 95%-100% with all the other couriers I've encountered, from parcelforce to dhl/fedex etc.

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

I've not had problems with there delivery times, always turns up on the day I'm given, the problem I have now is if your out you have to go and collect, where's before they would redeliver the next day.
Does any one know if this is a new thing?

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

My area's particularly bad for City Link - I have had a 100% first time undelivered rate, wasting a days work each time doing so. Getting a failure to deliver card would be a good sign. I've even been informed twice by the original sender that the package was returned with a failure to deliver when I didn't even recieve a card.

Visits to the depot aren't much better - the stories about how some packages are handled are true. Whats worse was once they, what seemed like, emptied a truck load of packages onto the warehouse floor and just let everyone in and find their own packages as a solution to dealing with a big queue.

I have got my packages all the time in the end, some others haven't been as lucky, but it does put me off sometimes when ordering from somewhere that uses City Link.

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

Okay - I get a heap of deliveries, more than most of the people on the forums - in order of courier companies who are good

    - ANC - Sometimes take a day longer than next day
    - Citylink - Used to be great when the local offices were franchises and now has gone downhill - less drivers, and a central call center, also having to have a minimum of £50 a week of pickups.
    - Fedex - These guys are good - but they always seem to LOVE paperwork, and tend to drop an invoice on you a week after you have recieved the goods for customs
    - UPS - They are good, but too 'offical' never break a rule - and well expensive
    - Royal Mail - Really good, and easy to claim with
    - ParcelForce - not bad, but a bit slow too
    - Parcelline - ARGH! Pants.

Re: City Link, anyone had any problems with them?

my main gripe with city-link at the moment is that they seem to have got a new guy to do our area and he doesnt leave cards (if/when) i'm out, nor was he able to read the note on the door asking him to leave the stuff with a neighbour - he also drives a red transit rather than a real citylink van... bit odd...

We have a very good driver here in NW London branch. He's always very friendly, polite and professional. Very nice chap he is I actually recommended him to join Hexus when I spoke to him last time
