If only they put one of them in a laptop.. and if only you don't need a small fortune to buy it when it's eventually released..

Re: 416GB 2.5" Flash drive anyone?

    Nice!

If they can squeeze 416GB into a 2.5" drive, how much could they get in a 3.5" drive???

    EDIT:

    OK, lets extrapolate. a 3.5"drive has a volume of 379354.08mm/cu a 2.5" is 66490.215mm/cu

    379354.08 / 66490.215 = 5.7054121422227315703521187290491

So a 3.5"drive has about 5.7 times the volume of a 2.5" drive

    That gives us a theoretical capacity of 5.7 x 416GB = 2371.2GB or about 2.3TB in a single 3.5" drive. Sweet

Re: 416GB 2.5" Flash drive anyone?

According to techreport.com, standard sizes of 2.5 and 3.5" HDDs are about 4 and 24 cubic inches respectively. 4 cubic inches with 416 equates to 104GB per cubic inch.
A 3.5" drive would therefore be capable of roughly 2.5TB, assuming linear scalability.

Re: 416GB 2.5" Flash drive anyone?

You could probably get more than that to be honest. the spavce needed for power and interface connectors isn't tht different, yet is also included in the multiplication. Same goes for interface logic, power regulators, casing etc.

So yeah, how about 3TB SSDs?

Given the price for flash HDs at the moment, 416GB is going to be astronomical..
