    100 Million Dollar!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/6991147.stm

And we have been chucked out of the constructors championship - and were miles in front of Ferrari.

Let the Italians have it, it means nothing if the leading team is removed anyway. You might as well award it to Super Aguri.

They weren't 'miles' ahead of Ferrari - but now we know this years constructors champion atleast, albeit perhaps unjustly.

    Re: 100 Million Dollar!

I was refreshing loads of sites from 3pm onwards to keep up to date with this - just as I left work, 2 sites reported McLaren's expulsion from 2007 AND 2008. Never trusting those sites ever again.

Losing constructors is no small matter - especially when you consider you've just been handed a bill for £50million equivalent. Losing points means losing money, losing the constructors championship means losing a big bonus. A disqualification could have ramifications on sponsorships as well.... although even if Vodaphone and/or Johnny Walker left, McLaren could easily pick up others.

Apparently the FIA wanted to dish the full penalty, but simply couldn't because of the Lewis Hamilton story so far.

    Re: 100 Million Dollar!

I really don't understand how they are going to prove if McLaren use Ferrari intelluectual property for their next year car. From what I can see, it will mean McLaren will try espcially hard to make sure they don't have anything that relates remotely to Ferrari, meaning they have to look at the dossier. I don't see why McLaren need to either, they've got a quicker car this year, so why build a car next year thats based on a slower car.
Anyway, its a joke, the FIA have also bummed Ferrari and I'm suprised they didn't ban them from the 2008 season. Hopefully Lewis and Alonso will wipe the floor with Kimi and Massa and show that the cars can in no way be related, cos the MP4-22 is soo much better.
Ferrari, Itallians Motorsport and the FIA have ruined an amazing season and yet again turned this 'sport' into a farce. 'It is no longer a sport' from a great champion.
Plus, feel sorry for Ron who from what I see if a innocent bystander, having the great McLaren name tainted, just cos Ferrari can't keep control their employees.

What a joke, expect mclaren to appeal and win. f1 has already become a laughing stock, but this is just the nail in the coffin for me.

They were ahead before the Mclaren 1-2 last time out, so they would have won it, 95% cert. And given that BMW are 'milllllllllllllllllllllllllllles' behind, they haven't removed Mclaren from the championship so much as awarded it to Ferrari.

Not a bad deal - get some of your secrets nicked, get the constructors championship as compensation.

It stinks kidzer - it stinks like a Yorkshire mans bath water.

As much as think its a poor call on the sentance..does anyone actually care about the constructors championship..expect for the constructors themselves? At least Hamilton and Alonso kept their points..

    Re: 100 Million Dollar!

Max Moseley was just desperate for that Upper Class Twit of the Year award, wasn't he? This all boils down to the animosity between Max and Ron, McClaren wouldn't want to copy Ferrari's designs because they're full of cheats (like the floor design they were caught on earlier this year).

All I'm going to say is that it takes two to tango...

I'm not a fan of the penalty imposed as it has ruined the best season we've had in years but in all seriousness can anyone actually think of a fair punishment? You could argue that it's not fair that Alonso and Hamilton get to keep their points as they directly benefited from what happened. On the other hand you could argue it is fair that they kept all their points as they weren't the ones that were caught cheating. Anyway, we don't even know why they were penalised yet!

    Re: 100 Million Dollar!

To be honest anything less would have not made any impact. I think its about time governing bodies got tougher on cheats, in particular F1, Pro cycling, and definitley football. Athletics is pathetic, so many get caught and they are banned in months terms rather than years, its not enough of a deterrent.
