    Some people, seriously

Thought you might enjoy this story from my latest nightmare at work, well not so much a nightmare but stupidity from customers

The scene, customer has wireless internet with AOL. They have a Netgear DG 834 GT router with built in modem. They had a problem with random disconnections, which isn't un common on a Toshiba Laptop (I've seen it happen before)

So after formatting the hard drive on the laptop and re-installing all it's software from scratch the customer leaves the store happy.

Two days later the store gets a phone call to say that their laptop is still faulty because it still wont connect to the internet. So I'm sent out to have a look at whats going on. I knew that Laptop was not faulty and I was angry because this is not part of my job (I am after all just a sales person) The customer was nice enough and everything but grrr.

I get there and well I plug it all in switch it on and it works, I mean seriously I don't think I have ever met anyone so thick as that, no wonder things weren't working. I felt very annoyed, ok so they can't help being thick but at the end of the day if you are that thick you should not be allowed to own, let alone use a computer.

To qoute from the IT Crowd

"Are you sure it's plugged in ?"

You reformatted a laptop just because the Wifi keeps disconnecting?

There's a glitch with certain models of Toshiba Laptops lan wifi cards and AOL broadband, a work mate had exactly the same problem. Not even new drivers would fix it, even tried a different router and I had the same problem. Formatted the hard drive and problem solved

My router is a netgear (the same one as the customer actually) and it's been really really good to me.

Agreed. Maybe some of those drink coasters they sent out actually found their way into someones cd-rom drive.

I swear by Netgear. Hubs, Switches and Routers. Never had a problem with them. Infact the DG 834 GT is about as easy as it gets for internet and wireless. Plug it in, follow instructions. 5 mins later working perfectly if you can read.

    Re: Some people, seriously

the general public...a menace to themselves and others!

I sold a Zafira to a lady a few years back, and she was clever, and intelligent.

But three weeks after she collected it, we had a heavy snow fall, and she drove along her own road, skidded, and slid into the kerb.

She buckled the front wheel, twisted the steering rod, and bent the front suspension strut, where she'd had the steering cranked all the way around in an attempt not to smack into the kerb.

She came in, on a tow truck after the bad weather had gone, and booked it in for the repairs. We quoted her for the front suspension, the steering parts and retracking, and a new wheel. The tyre was (luckily) fine.

We asked if she'd like to talk to her insurance company as it may be considered an accident, and the bil was getting close to £600. She said she didn't see why she would claim on her insurance.....

    wait for it.....

/deep breath....remembering how silly the general public are...

She wouldn't claim on the insurance as Vauxhall would pay for it.

We asked her why she thought Vauxhall would pay for it...maybe she worked for them.

"Because it's still under warranty" she said.

"Warranty...... that's for manufacturing defects...not sliding into a kerb on ice"

She went spammo....And it wasn't until I found out what she did for a job (made clothes) that I found a way to explain to her why it wasn't covered.

"If I purcahsed one of your garments and then, in deep snow, I fell and snagged it on the hedge, and when I extricated myself from the hedge, I waltzed straight back to your company and demanded a new garment as it had holes in, would I get it....even though it wasn't my fault that I fell in the hedge?"

    She left....and she never returned!
