    Anyone got a Creative Zen?

Does anyone have a Zen V, Zen Stone, or Ipod? Does your model support the resume feature?

    Let me explain:

I'm looking for a solid state MP3 player for my Dad who wants it to listen to audiobooks/ podcasts. He doesn't want it for any music but must be able to hold 700Mb+ of MP3 files. Looking around there are quite a few 1-2Gb models that might be suitable.

However he has one requirement that is essential for him but is largely unknown if you look for the feature. He needs the player to support the resume feature. This means that if you shutdown the player whilst it is part the way through a track it will resume playback from that position the next time it is switched on. As his audiobook/podcast is over one hour long it would be a nightmare for him to have to find his place next time.

    Cheers !

    iPod Shuffle

Does the job, my gran has one and she listens to loads of radio shows, etc on it, it does do resume afaik.

I guess a gig would be enough, provided your Dad switched his podcasts when he finished. Also, audiobooks can be quite large so maybe a Nano would suit him better? (Amazon.com claims that the Nano has resume as well)

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

OK so I might have to go down the iPod route (have been a Creative fan for years and still have my Nomad Jukebox MP3 player). The only trouble with the Shuffle is that it doesn't seem to have any display. The Nano looks a better choice for my Dad, just need to verify that it too has a resume feature. Anyone?

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

My wife has a Zen Vison M and I like it. However I'm looking for a solid state MP3 player. I also find the bookmark feature fiddly. The resume means you can just turn off the player when you're fed up of hearing the audiobook and it will resume next time you switch on. At least that's what I hope it will do....

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

The Sandisk Sansa range also looks interesting and a lot cheaper. I've been looking at the Sansa m240 and C240 which are £20 and £33 respectively. That is a LOT less than the iPod Nano and provided it supports the resume feature would do my dad nicely. I'll keep looking but if anyone knows I'd appreciate it.

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

My 4gig ZenV+ does IF you shut it down whilst it's playing. However, if you stop & switch it off it starts from the begining of the track.

your absolutely right! never thought to try just shutting it down when its still going.. bit naff that it can remember where it is while its playing but forget when its paused tho...

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

rockbox will do it on any of these supported players:

    Code:
    # Apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation iPod Nano
(not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)
    # Archos: Jukebox 5000, 6000, Studio, Recorder, FM Recorder, Recorder V2 and Ondio
    # Cowon: iAudio X5, X5V, X5L, M5 and M5L
    # iriver: H100, H300 and H10 series
    # SanDisk: Sansa e200 and e200R series
    # Toshiba: Gigabeat X and F series (not the S series)
I just tested it on my gigabeat, resumes every time however you stop playback.

not sure if any of those are (cheap) flash, but with rockbox they will all work the same in terms of UI/OS

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

I've just returned a Sandisk Sansa Express because it doesn't have this very feature (resume)!

I bought it as I thought my Creative MuVo n200 1Gb was getting a bit long in the tooth & the memory wasn't quite big enough. Well I'm still using it & it works great on audiobooks & podcasts.

OK, it's not a current Creative model, but plenty of places still sell it for ok prices AND unlike the Zen Stone, it does have a screen!

I am keeping my eye on the new Creative Zen, I just hope that the online reviews start mentioning if players have resume or bookmark features!

Re: Anyone got a Creative Zen?

I have the sansa E280 (8GB), just press pause, and it'll restart at the same place place it left off. Great player, has a voice recorder built in, will play video (though it's good, you wouldn't want to watch a vid on such a small screen). A nice extra (as opposed to the ipod range) you can change the battery yourself.

I use it down the gym, while I'm driving, at work I like it. And, it's around £30 cheaper than when I got mine.
