I've just reported my flat mate as a missing person

    Sh!t.

I am going spare now, my flat mate called me at 21:30, from a place 15 min away from our flat, i was out in angel at the time having a couple of beers. I text her at 23:00, immediate delivery, no reply, i assume she's asleep. I get home at 23:10pm (after traveling exactly the same route), and she hasn't been home, no sign of her anywhere.

So i call her, few rings then awnser phone. So i wait a little, try again.

No reply, send a few more texts (URGENT been prominent).

    No reply.

So i call the local number for the british transport police, i explain she was completely sober, on her own and they suggest a missing persons report.

I'm so worried right now, she's never done anything like this before, she always texts someone before getting in licensed cabs with details about them etc. She is un-healthily pariond which is why i'm so freaking out.

I really hope i'm just wasting police time (who the **** cares, i pay a lot of tax).

    Anyone done this before?

Maybe she hooked up with a friend and there is no signal where she is at the moment or her phone is on silent?

I hope she gets home safely

Problem is i'm hoping i've just got worried for no reason, and shes gone to a friends just without telling me, which whilst out of character considering she told me she was on her way home, well there has to be a first for everything.

I'm hoping tommorow morning i'm going to be very embrassed.

Lets hope tomorrow morning she is going to be very embarassed too! I know how you feel and how stupid you will feel when you try to explain to her why you called the police! I have done it too! It made me re-evaluate my whole relationship with that person too. I.e. How come I cared so darn much?

Mate, I didn't hear from my own fiance in 4 days once, and I never filed a missing persons report, and neither did I know where she was

You absolutely did the right thing. Fingers crossed they find her or she turns up soon.

FWIW, I once was bricking it after my brother disappeared for 24 hours- turned out he was in a stupor on his best friend's floor. In the meantime, we were genuinely frightened for 8 hours, but it turned out alright.

    Keep us updated.

Trouble is the Cops don't take missing persons seriously untill at least 24Hrs after the event.

    good luck though.

Re: I've just reported my flat mate as a missing person

she turned up this morning, got a phone call 6am, the tubes had stopped working northbound, so she went back to her mums, because she thought i was out clubbing till 7am, she didn't txt me. Oh well, we've agreed we'll just never speak of this again.

The police where very good, the reason they suggested a missing persons is because there had been an indcident with some kids at my local tube station, and as such wanted to rule her out as the victim. Also they don't wait all missing persons the same, a someone whos 23, tall and rather fit is more risk.

I felt like a total rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish, but they told me to definately report things like this if they happen again.

So now i feal so very happy, happy to be embrassed and wasted time, but its by far the best option!

You'd have felt much more of a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish if you didn't think it worth reporting and it turned out that something had happened to her. Definitely the correct decision.

Glad she's turned up fine and well.
