I wonder how much he has been influenced by the Christian Right of the USA. There used to be a pretty good anti-AIDS campaign paid for by the USA, but since Bush got in it has been subverted into an abstinence campaign, leading to an incredible rise in AIDS again. When will religious loonies realise that actual people are being hurt by their beliefs?

Please don't judge the majority on the actions of a minority... This guy is clearly ill-informed, but he's certainly not representative of the Christian faith in other countries.

You see this is why a condom is only a 99% reliable form of contraception. Which is why we have the smith & wesson for the other 1% ;)
Its quite scarey when you think about it, i've had that talk (thankfully just) once before, and its kind of hard to say, "is it really a human being?".
I can understand as such where churches that dissaprove of sex outside of marrage are coming from. However i can't even begin to comprehend the total lack of understanding of the human mind that leaves them to draw that conclusion as a good idea.
Before we stop everyone in Africa dieing of AIDS, i think perhaps we need to have a think about how to feed them all. It's well known there isn't food and water for the number of people in Africa as it is, without reducing the number dieing from AIDS and other diseases and having more mouths to feed.
I want to point out, i'm not saying we should stop AIDS and the other diseases that are a problem, but something needs to be done to make sure they can survive rather than starving to death instead of being diseased.
I just read that even George Bush's daughter has stood up to be counted as being pro-condom for AIDS prevention and other hygeine issues. Implicit in that is birth control, which Bush is very much against. To be fair, if his dad had been a bit keener on the condom the world might have been a better place.
Whisperer. The point of condoms is that they are dual purpose tools. They prevent babies and AIDS. If the poor Africans use condoms to protect themselves from AIDS they will also achieve population control.

i have yet to know of a sane catholic to be honest.... i am beginning to think the catholic church started off as an insane asylum that suddenly got a lot of money somehow. then again, i have very little time for a faith that if it were not for them, we would be colonising Mars by now
Valid point, but i was talking in general terms of preventing disease rather than just using condoms to stop STDs. More talking about the schemes to mass vaccinate which is a very valid cause and I whole hearetdly support the work of the charities trying to make the lives better. Yes, population control will be a great acheivement but I just feel that more thought needs to be applied to feeding everyone as they can't cope with the number of people in the country at present.Quote:

F**k em. I'm now at the point now where I couldn't careless about them. I'm immune to the TV images now. They've had their chance free of the nasty, white, colonial, oppressors and they've managed to f**k it up far more than we ever could. I've seen 25 years of it and no doubt I'll see 25 more years and 25 more after that. AIDS is an African solution to an African problem. Let them get on with it on their own with their own ignorance and let's stop propping up these crappy places with aid (our hard earned cash - yes Gordo you heard, you one eyed ****).
You might want to look at the health minister for SA who thinks that eating vegetables is a cure for HIV from the Gruniad.
