I'm no fan of P. Hilton and I not seen much of D. Letterman so I may have missed the point:
She was obviously a bit uncomfortable with the interview, but he appeared to has a list of things he was going to say regardless. Should he not have done a little more to try an put her a ease or is this his style not to care about his guests? Is Mr Letterman the U.S. Paxman?
strangely I did find what he did with the perfume funny
Not really a great fan of hers or his, but she would of known beforehand that he would be ridiculing her.
I felt sorry for her when she got ripped by that female comedian at an awards show though, that was just as bad as bullying in my opinion.
In the internets, no one can hear you sarcasm.
I'm suprised she put up with that, and the people who arranged it, must be fealing very worried about their job security.

Not worth a watch, She isn't a role model but doesn't deserve the stick she gets. icanhazburger is right its just bullying.
Three Lions!
C'mon England
When i was at uni i worked on summer schools, I used to design and run activities (ie making line following robots etc.)
We had some 15 year olds i was shapparoning, at lunch one of the kids was been picked on, but i completely understand why the others where ripping on him, he was been a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish, pretending to be something he really wasn't. That behavior in itself would have a longer term detriment to his health, than what the kids where saying.
If you lay yourself out as something your not prepare to get found out and ripped appart.

Think what you like about paris hilton but that was mean and showed more about letterman than hilton.
Good, I am pleased, I don't like her. She's only good for one thing, looking at.
yawn, sick of hearing about her and that spell in jail.
HEXUS FOLDING TEAM It's EASY
oh how i crave for amnesia so i can't remember the bimbette who survives on the froth of celebrity
who is paris hilton?
I think that is where adults should come in. Whether it was looking that he was 'looking for it' or not, the psychological damage could be worse than you think at that age. Chances are, the kids ripping on them are not doing so constructively. In the long term, they may end up incredibly insecure, or snap - neither are better than 'pretending to be something he was not'. In my opinion, the best way is just to ignore those people - if they have no positive reinforcement, it is enough for them to rethink behaving that way - or have a chat about how their behaviour is not going to gain them any friends. And doing nothing could also affect how the kids doing the ripping perceive the world ('We showed him good! That felt good! Maybe we should try this more often!').
