AARGH P-Bleeddin'-C rubbish!

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012
London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be
"offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team
have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of
Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically
British". Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to
put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never
been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being "too
British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain ..

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade,
as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short fly-past in 2005 when the winning bid was
announced, but their fly-past at the Games was to have been truly
spectacular.

It is to be hoped that common sense prevails

If you disagree with this decision, sign the petition on the link
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/RedArrows...=redArrows2012

Please forward this if you think it worthwhile.

You know what to do.

why bother? petitions.pm.gov.uk is an opportunity for the labour government to tell you why you're stupid for disagreeing with decisions they've taken - they will categorically never cause a change in policy

if they're worried they could wear masks. Mabye some people will be scared to take trains, no reason to ban them.

Don't know if i belive this or not tbh, dosen't appear to have a credable source.

Re: AARGH P-Bleeddin'-C rubbish!

but by 2012 there probally won't be a red arrows display team anyhow due to military spending cutbacks, the government nearly disbanded them once before in 2004

Re: AARGH P-Bleeddin'-C rubbish!

Ahh modern britain. Yeah the cutbacks will probably kill them off before then anyway. Instead they will probably choose some other representatives of modern britain. A bunch of big brother winners talking in formation. Or a bunch of happy slappers twa%%ing an old woman, in formation. Or maybe they'll go the BBC route and just get a bunch of breakdancing kids who are all from "ethnic minorities", doing stuff to show that we are a modern, culturally diverse, kool kountry. And now that Freddie Mercury is dead, the opening ceremony will be "I like the way you move" being sung by Girls Aloud.

Is your article even true?

Funny how articles like this spread like wildfire so that everyone can say "PC GONE MAD" when it isn't even true.

Check out the link from the horse's mouth.

FYI, the Red Arrows are asked to perform INTERNATIONALLY in many OVERSEAS countries...

geez...

edit - "It is to be hoped that common sense prevails" - so ironic

So what? Just because they get asked to perform in some friendly country, doesn't mean every country in the entire world love them. And it doesn't have much to do with what our country thinks either.

The fact is, the Olympics is a truly international event, and we are meant to be the hosts... Think of it from the other perspective.. if New York won the Olympic bid, and when all the nations of the world go to the US for a sporting event... they are forced to watch a bunch of stealth bombers flying in formation, fighting fit from their service bombing anything that moves in Iraq... do you think all the nations of the world would appreciate that?

How about if North Korea won the Olympic bid. Would you be happy going to watch your favourite 100m runner or whatever, but first you have to watch Kim Jong-il's prized neuclear missile launchers, parading around looking menacing?

YOU may be proud of the Brits and our military, but other countries have different opinions, and even people in this country have different opinions, considering they have been fighting a war for the past years, that not everybody here even agrees with.

So some people not wanting to see the red arrows there, is hardly beyond the realms of possibility.

If you put equal weight to an official site to a tabloids newspaper, I must wonder where you get your source of reliable information. The "PC gone mad" issue is a subjective matter, best backed with real cases. A fake story, if anything, demonstrates that the "PC gone mad" issue is overrated as people are basing their opinion based on a combination of fact and made up stories - not exactly objective is it. So yes, the truthfulness of this story is relevant both in the "PC gone mad" context and the petition posted.

Maybe it's just my particular viewpoint, but I've never really seen the Red Arrows as being military. I know they are, but it's not a particular association. Perhaps other countries do see them as being a military faction, but when the sole purpose of a 'performance' is to thrill crowds and put pretty colours across the sky, it seems a little far fetched to think any Germans/Iraqi's/Afghans (Afghani?) will be cowering under their seats.

And to consider banning (true or not) such an incredible specticle because of a few overly sensitive individuals is the definition of PC gone mad. IMO.

Looks like it's a little late regarding the petition, there's already a response from the PM's office on there meaning they've already looked at it.

Basically says "Sorry, not the Governments decision"

Stupid political system in this country!! Our representatives make comittess out of their mates and then have the cheek to say it's nothing to do with the Government

You know, I actually did think about checking, 'cause it sounds too daft to be true, but it's too early, I've caught Zak's Man-Flu, and in a country where they ban Christmas decorations I can believe anything.
