    ridiculous labels on foods

What labels have you come across which you just can't believe anyone would put on a packet/bottle etc. eg:

I had a tuna steak this evening from a well known supermarket. On the back of the packet under allergy advice it said "contains fish". Glad of that as it was fish I was having....

Also heard one on a standup show last night. It's a warning on lucozade bottles which said it does not replace fluid lost due to diarreah. I mean, come on, why would any sane person think that a solution to diarreah is lucozade. Are all labels now made for 3 year olds?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

The worst is when you buy a packet of peanuts and then they state 'May contain nuts' ..well I hope it does!

    Re: ridiculous labels on foods

I bought some chicken drumsticks and wings and while reading the label to see if they could be eaten cold etc it said near the bottom "Not suitable for Vegetarians"

Another funny case was my mum is a vegetarian and i nicked some of her meat-free sausages and on the front it said "This food is suitable for Vegetarians"
Hell and Fire was spawned to be released.

    Re: ridiculous labels on foods

To be honest, all these stupid food labels are a good thing, it means that the manufacturer is compling with the simple labelling law on ALL applicable products. It means that when you check the back of say a chocolate bar, you can be sure that it'll say "contrains nuts" if there's a chance it does actually contain nuts.

    Re: ridiculous labels on foods

Did you guys notice how sometimes they try to make something bad about the product good simply by slashing it on the label with some fancy words?

Last time I checked my local Finland store was selling chicken breast with added water for Extra tenderness, I know we all love added water in our meat nothing makes us happier then paying the extra weight and see it evaporate once cooked.

Also I can’t imagine how they forced the chicken to drink all that water.

Loads of different brands of nut packets have that on them. It's for allergy reasons, but why they put "may" on it is just whacky.

I think the (butchered) chicken is essentially rolled around in a barrel full of water with strange proteins in until it has absorbed enough for them to flog it to you cheaply.

    Re: ridiculous labels on foods

Hundreds of tiny needles are also stuck into the piece of meat and it is injected with a water and protein cocktail.

Interestingly, this protein doesn't need to come from a chicken, so you could easily have chicken that contains beef.

    Re: ridiculous labels on foods

Not really related to food labels, but stupid all the same... at Bristol airport at the top of the stairs that leads to passport control there is a big yellow cone that shouts at you continuously to "PLEASE MIND THE STAIRS". I mean seriously... is this really needed?! If I have to queue by this thing for a while, I can just feel my blood pressure increasing.
