Cash from ATMs!

Just wondering, is it possible to define the exact amount you want out at an ATM? When I go to the ATM and go to take out money it has £5, £10, £15, £25, £50 (iirc, or something similar). As the ATM is usually quite busy i've never had a chance to have a poke-around for an option to take out say £40.54 (arbitrary) or any other in between value.

You'd think there would be more use for the numbers on the keypad than for typing your PIN; is there?

And yes, i'm a bit picky! I like to take the exact amount out that I need, so this has been a pet peeve of mine for a while, yet i've never gotten around to asking anywhere about it. So, anyone knows? ^^.

No change can be taken out or £5 notes. Only works in £10's

Hmm! Well then, multiples of 5 then it should do! I usually want £40 out for a saturday night but there is only £20 or £50 (or is it £25, I can't remember tbh ). Not that it really matters, I just take £50 out usually, i'm just curious.

once upon a time they did £5 but with increasing prices over the years they got dropped & the amounts rejigged.
I would imagine that like you most people take out £50 (or more) at a time.

As Madduck says, you can specify certain amounts as long as they are mutliples of 10

IIRC, although a lot of banks stopped giving £5 notes from ATMs, the bank of England is trying to "persuade" them to start again due to how few and the bad condition of £5 notes in circulation, not to mention the massive stockpile of uncut fivers they have...

YEah there were £5 at one time but now ATMs only issue £10 and £20 denominations. If you're after specific amounts then either head to the counter or withdraw as close as possible (nearest £10) and raid the penny jar.

You can get £5 notes from lots and lots of ATMs - especially those near student areas or universities (banks/ATM owners know that students are broke )

If you want exact money then go to a real bank teller rather than an automated one - can get £4.20 out or £50.21 or whatever you want then

Wouldn't it have been easier to just have a go when you're next at one?

Anyway, as people in here are saying, you can only take out multiples of the lowest note it contains. So if you are at a uni this might be £5, in most cases this is £10 and if it is running low on cash and only has £20's left then it'll be multiples of 20.

Just press the Other button next time you're at one and it'll say something like "Please enter amount - In multiples of £10".
