    favourite album ish

i love music, more than most things in life but it seems lately that i'm struggling to find any decent music to listen to, everything out at the moment and stuff i hear on the radio just seems to be a bit drab and the same as everything else, apart from the odd jem like the flaming lips new single, which took me a while to get used to but i really like now.

Now my question is what are the best albums that people have in their collections from any genre that aren't really mainstream. I aren't fussed about how old the albums are just how innovative or different from the mainstream they are/were.

To get people started a few of my favourite albums/artists are Pendulum's Hold Your Colour, Anything that Thievery Corporation have done, and anything by pink floyd.

Hopefully this thread takes off because i need some new music ideas

    Thanks

    Andy

If you like pendulum then you MIGHT like Robert Miles - 23am. I think its a great album and very different to anything else although i can't recomend his album 'organik'.

I dont like much music around atm, looking for suggestions in any genre too

Oh and also, i've got a promo cd that was in the guardian a few months back called 'Groove armada presents'. Some really good tracks on it

Yes! Got their 1997-2004 'best of' CD a few weeks ago as well.

    Yes! Yes!

Also, for me, non-mainstream stuff, all the last 3 albums by Apocalyptica. They were 'famous' for covering Metallica using Cellos, but now they do their own stuff and it beats the crap out of everything they've done before and most guitar based metal

The riffs they churn out of those things are gobsmackingly awesome (check out "Betrayal/Forgiveness" with Dave Lombardo from Slayer on drums, "cortege", and "Fisheye"). Magnificent. Really, really, really.

Getting some great ideas here. i agree with people that its hard to pick a favourite album, but so far i fancy getting Crystal Method - Legion Of Boom thanks to shelley for that and possiblty the robert miles album - 23am - thanks to BenW for that one too. I'm going through a bit of an electronic music type phase, so they seem apt, i bought UNKLE - never never land yesterday, i can highly recommend it.

Anyway happy easter all, time for me to go to work
